Let’s get ready to rumble! The Voice’s battle rounds continued last Monday and Tuesday, with the coaches continuing to stack their teams. This week wraps up this stage of the competition, and we are wondering what will happen in these final hours. But before we start placing our bets, let’s recap some of our favorite moments from the last bunch o’ battles.

  • First, a little shout out to Christina Aguilera, who had her very first steal! After a heartfelt speech about confidence (and the Mickey Mouse Club), Christina scooped up 17-year-old Alessandra Guercio, who lost her battle for Team Adam to the more relaxed Kayla Nevarez. The other coaches were shocked Xtina finally pushed that button! Alessandra was too, and her genuine thankfulness warmed our hearts.
  • Battle wise, we were won over by Team Cee Lo’s Nicholas David and his new found buddy, Todd Kessler. Both are family men in their early 30s with babies on the way- and both had extraordinary beards. During the rehearsals of Hall and Oates’ “She’s Gone” the pair became close, and it was nice to see an actual friendship between battlers. And the Battle of the Beards? Wow! Both sounded amazing, and Todd’s voice was both clear and soulful. But Nicholas? As soon as he opened his mouth, our jaws dropped. Blake stated that he sounded like Barry White and looked like Jesus. And when Cee Lo picked “Saint Nick,” the man with the longer beard became the battle champ.
  • Bonus highlight? MacKenzie Bourg’s dad booming “You Da Man!” after his son battled Emily Earle. Alright, MacKenzie won us over as well. The teen suffered from a heart condition and woke up from a coma just before Super Bowl Sunday- and in time for The Voice. His battle partner was Emily- a fellow guitar player with a country sound. While their chosen song was tough- “Good Time” by Owl City and Carly Rae Jepson, they both did a good job.  After a tough deliberation, Cee Lo picked MacKenzie. Backstage, MacKenzie’s dad showed his softer side as the family hugged it out. We hope to see MacKenzie go far in this competition, and we hope to hear more from his dad!

Have you been watching The Voice too? What have been your favorite battles? Who do you think is the team to beat at this stage in the game?
