Another week closer to Halloween and another terrifying movie to go see in theaters! Fans have waited patiently for the long-anticipated sequel to Silent Hill, the gory and terrifying film based on the popular video game. While the first movie was a mélange of game installments, Silent Hill: Revelation focuses on Heather Mason and the events in the 3rd game. If you’re not familiar with Silent Hill, the sleepy town with the same name was shut down after a coal fire broke out underground. You probably didn’t know the town is also a gateway to a nightmarish reality that serves as a battleground between a religious cult and their most powerful victim. Both sides pull people with a connection to the town into their hell — thus, entering pain and revenge; your typical horror movie elements. Visuals in the first movie were spectacular, and you can bet the 3D violence in the sequel will haunt your dreams for weeks. Find showtimes, if you dare.

If horror and gore aren’t your thing, don’t worry your local theater is prepared and has options, like Cloud Atlas; the newest film from the Wachowskis (creators of The Matrix) starring Tom Hanks and Halle Berry. This movie is a reincarnation thrill ride. It follows individual souls as their lives intersect and intertwine throughout history. If you’ve seen the five-minute trailer — yep, it’s five minutes — then you know it’s an extremely surreal movie that is as beautiful as it is complex. If you’re having doubts about Cloud Atlas, you should know it received a 10-minute long standing ovation at the Toronto International Film Festival. Critics say the movie builds to an intensely emotional conclusion, but you can find out for yourself. Find showtimes for Cloud Atlas.

I hope you didn’t miss it, but just in case you did, the trailer for Iron Man 3 was released this week! Check it out so you’re not out of the loop:

Think Tony Stark is still shaken from the events portrayed in Marvel’s The Avengers? Curious to know what happens after he’s confronted by Iron Man’s archenemy, the Mandarin (Ben Kingsley) and his 10 “Rings of Power?” The trailer also shows off Iron Man’s “Halloween costumes” – including the Extremis Armor — which boggles the mind with action possibilities. Keep checking the Eventful blog for the latest on Iron Man 3 before it’s released in May of 2013.
