There are a lot of things you can be thankful for this Thanksgiving: friends, family, a job, a sumptuous feast, and no sign of the apocalypse; yet. Even with the chaos and unpredictability of this winter season, there’s one thing you can count on to be thankful for: Great movies! With the excitement of Skyfall slowly fading, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 continues to dominate box offices around the globe. However, taking the five-day weekend into consideration, you have plenty of opportunities to catch the new, you-don’t-want-to-miss or the family-is-driving-you crazy movies. There are so many options, we think Breaking Dawn – Part 2 could lose its number one spot.

This week’s front-runner contender is Life of Pi, based on the award-winning 2001 novel by Yann Martel. The film is directed by the acclaimed filmmaker Ang Lee, the visionary behind Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Brokeback Mountain. While his previous film– Lust, Caution – proved much more controversial than Brokeback Mountain, expect the grand storytelling and layered characterization Lee is known for, but without the sex his recent films have touted. There are a few familiar faces in the cast, including Irrfan Khan (The Amazing Spiderman), Tabu (The Namesake), Gerard Depardieu (Green Card, My Father the Hero), and Rafe Spall (Prometheus, Hot Fuzz). The real actor to watch is the film’s star, Surah Sharma, who will be making his film debut alongside a talented tiger as a boy stranded at sea who learns about himself and the world in which he lives as he struggles to survive. Looking for a less cerebral movie experience? We can’t blame you; turkey can take its toll on the human body. So let’s wake you up with a patriotic, action-packed, keep-you-glued-to-your-seat thriller: like the Red Dawn remake starring Chris Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson. The explosive, no holds barred action between teens and the North Korean army will make the Thanksgiving fight for the drumstick seem like child’s play, so check showtimes here.

Don’t worry, if you need to entertain the kids we have an animated holiday treat you don’t want to miss: Rise of the Guardians, where Jack Frost joins Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, and The Sandman to stop the Boogeyman from plunging the world into darkness. You won’t want to miss Santa Claus and every other character from child lore (seriously, did they miss anyone?) taking care of business, so check showtimes here.

But, if the leaves changing and the air crisping brings out your romantic side, grab your significant other or pack of girls to check out Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence as two troubled individuals who help each other put their lives back together in Silver Linings Playbook. Check out showtimes here, as the onscreen chemistry and electric wit between these two will be a nice warm up for when the duo play a thieving couple in their next film, The Falling, in 2013

That’s all we have for now folks — enjoy your holiday and get to the show.
