Mega-festivals are all the rage these days – Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Firefly, Voodoo – the list goes on and on. If you can’t make to these weekend long epics, don’t worry. You can still get your summer music fix the old fashioned way. That’s right: break out your best concert blanket and hit up your local amphitheater.

We’ve got just the suggestion for you: check out the Goo Goo Dolls and Matchbox Twenty on their cross-country trek this summer. When Leonardo DiCaprio said, “Can’t repeat the past? Why, of course you can!” in The Great Gatsby, we’re pretty sure he was referring to this co-headlining tour. Who wouldn’t want to repeat this past? The two bands have approximately a billion radio hits between them, and we bet you still remember all of the words. Don’t pretend you don’t belt out “Iris” and “Push” anytime they come on the radio.

Staying with the Gastby theme, we’re looking at the present and also towards the future. The Goo Goo Dolls just released their new album, Magnetic and are justifiably proud of it. Their 10th studio album in over 25 years together, Magnetic finds the band re-energized. Lead single “Rebel Beat” freshens up the familiar Goo Goo Dolls formula  – earnest Johnny Rzeznik vocals and music teetering on the edge of ballad territory – with an energetic chorus we can only describe as fun. One critic even went so far as to call “Breaks Your Heart” the band’s finest song since “Iris.” That’s pretty hefty praise.

If you’re catching the live show, expect a few new songs mixed into the set list with your old favorites – after all, what would a summer concert be without nostalgic moments? Close your eyes and you can almost picture yourself transported back to the late 90s. Do us a favor though – leave the chain wallets and hackey sacks at home!
