Can you believe it’s almost August? The summer is flying by! Don’t worry; there are still lots of lazy summer days ahead. But if you are looking to get out there and make the most out of the remainder of the season, check out Eventful for the goings-on near you. San Diego, CA
San Diegans- did you don a big hat last Wednesday at the opening day of the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club’s 2013 race season? Don’t fret if you didn’t make it, the races go until September 4th– plenty of time to catch the action. The Del Mar Racetrack also has an amazing line up of concerts- don’t miss Fitz and the Tantrums, Pinback, and Weezer! Check the full schedule to plan your summer concert line-up.
Dallas, TX area
Head to the Ms. Balch Springs Senior Classic Pageant on August 10th for proof that beauty queens know no age limits! Dedicated to changing the image of aging, the Diamond Dames will sing, dance and entertain all in attendance with their tremendous talent! The pageant features ladies sixty years and up, who strive to improve the community and make a difference in the lives of other seniors.
Cape Cod, MA
This one is for the artists (or aspiring artists) in the family! Check out the Cape Cod Art Bar’s Summer Schedule for a variety of fun painting classes for the whole family. There are family sessions and also those just for the kiddos, such as Kids Paint Whimsy Tree, on July 27th. And if you want to get out and mingle with just adults, there are evening sessions, such as Cosmic Wave, on August 6th.
Feel like learning a bit on your summer break? If so, the National Heritage Area: Heritage Walks may be right up your alley. These affordable tours run often: Heritage Walks are daily until September 1st, with a second tour on Saturdays and Sundays. And for weekend only adventurers, the Fell’s Point Heritage Trail Tour is offered Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Led by “Urban Rangers” both walks are guided tours through several historic neighborhoods, telling the rich and diverse stories of Baltimore’s history and culture, through its beautiful landmarks and historic sites.
On Saturday, August 17th, the Mo Pop Festival is taking over the Freedom Hill Amphitheatre with the sounds, sights and tastes of the area. Not only is there music all day long (on two stages! Acts include Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, Old Crow Medicine Show, and Manchester Orchestra) but craft beer lovers need to check out the “Mo Bier Garten” showcasing over 25 local craft beers, and foodies must head to the “Mo Food truck rally alley.” Don’t miss the “Mo Artist Village” featuring nationally renowned visual artists, along with a special Detroit Music Awards Exhibit.
