More new features, bug fixes

Thanks to a long list of beta testers who've been reporting bugs over the past couple weeks. We've gone and fixed a number of pesky problems, some more visible than others.

We've also added some new features on the site.

New Feature: Clickable Tags & Tag Search
You can now click on tag links on event and venue detail pages. Doing so will take you to the search results page, where you will see all events/venues which match the name of the tag you clicked. This way you can browse around the site and see other items that have the same tag.

New Feature: New Event Bookmarklet
We've just added a bookmarklet for adding new events. So now, it's easy to add events while surfing other websites… A bookmarklet is a simple one-click tool that allows a web browser to do simple and helpful tasks. At first glance, a bookmarklet appears to be just a regular link — you can click it or add it your favorites. But, unlike other links, bookmarklets consist of small snippets of Javascript code that do small tasks when activated.

To install the bookmarklet on most browsers, just drag the bookmarklet link to your browser's favorites bar. (Using IE6? You need to follow these instructions.)

Once the bookmarklet is installed, here's how to use it:

  1. Find an event you'd like to add to EVDB
  2. Click on the bookmarklet link
  3. The bookmarklet will open a compact version of the New Event page
  4. Add your event!

Optional step: the bookmarklet will copy any selected text from the webpage where it is activated. So save yourself some typing!

The cool part about this is you no longer need to use the EVDB website to add events. So, if you come across a cool event in your web travels, just click the bookmarklet and add the event. (If you're not logged in, you'll need to do so… which you can do using the bookmarklet itself.)

Bookmarklets are very popular in the blogging world, and we see no reason it shouldn't be the same with adding events to EVDB.
