A note for the more technically-minded readers. . .
Last week we pushed some new code to the site that isn't visible in your browser window, but has some interesting possibilities for the future: microformats. We're also this week announcing our support and participation in the new microformats.org effort.
On every event and venue detail page within EVDB.com, we're now embedding additional code in the HTML of the pages, supporting hCalendar, hCard, and relTag. hCalendar is an XHTML rendering of iCalendar data inside a web page. hCard is likewise an XHTML rendering of vCard data in a web page. relTag is a simple way of indicating in HTML that a page being linked to pertains to a certain keyword, or tag. For the full technical specifications of these microformats, see their respective pages: hCalendar, hCard, relTag.
For the average user, the benefits of these embedded microformats are still to come in the future. But there are some exciting possibilities to think about, like plugins that enable browsers to detetect events and venue information whenever these microformats are present in an HTML page.
