Wil versus Jill, or, The Week in Demand

Wil Says He Will
The week started with Wil Wheaton in firm control of the Eventful Demand stats, thanks to his shrewdly providing just the right amount of frequency and urgency to the posts on his blog, keeping his avid readers up to date on the 134 demands worldwide from 2700 people. Wil already had agreed to do events in Montreal, San Francisco, and Boston.

As I mentioned in the previous post on the Eventful blog, on Monday Wil announced an actual date and venue for his Boston event. I suspect well over 200 people are going to show up, perhaps many more if the Boston Globe, the Phoenix, or another local paper decides to cover how fans of the local community successfully got Wil to agree to do an event.

Also impressive has been the demand for Wil to come to Atlanta as part of the DragonCon science-fiction convention. No word from Wil yet as to whether he'll agree to do Atlanta too.

Jill Says She Might
On Friday, May 12th, Jill Sobule sent out an email to her fan mailing list. In it she announced her new tour dates, including shows in LA, Madison, Wisconsin, Milkwaukee, Chicago, Seattle, and New York.

And then, following the list of tour dates, her email to fans announced something different:

"Well," you say, "those gigs are all very well and good, but what about ME? When's Jill gonna come to MY town?" Good question. And while we may not have an easy answer for you, we at least now have a way for you to "officially" ask the question. The good folks at eventful.com have set up an "event demand" system that allows you to request a performance by Jill in your favorite town. The idea is, if enough people ask for shows in a particular place, the chance of a show happening in that place increases dramatically. Interested? Please go to this page and request -- no, demand! -- a show in your 'hood:

Very cool. And with that, the fans got busy. In a period of 24 hours, her fans more than tripled the number of people demanding her for events. As of this writing, there are now 151 people demanding Jill in 43 cities from Auckland, New Zealand to Virginia Beach, Virginia. A great start! Let's hope they keep it up and get the word out.

A Demand to Play Ball
Finally, a quick mention of probably the most unusual and surprising new demand this past week: this one from an Eventful user named SnowzerLvr, requesting people to sign up and help a disabled young man named Aaron travel to San Francisco from Ohio to see Barry Bonds and the San Francisco Giants play a game. In the three days since the demand was started, 36 people have signed up, bumping Jill Sobule from the top spot on the "hottest demands" list.
