Nickelback tours this fall
Some bands are around for a hit or two and then leave us as a fond memory. Some other bands have been around for 15+ years and sell out nationwide tours the day the tickets are on the market. This article deals with a band that definitely fits into the latter category. A little band by the name of Nickelback.
The guys have announced a series of fall tour dates that will monopolize most of the US's sizable arenas, centers and pavilions. The tour is a continuation of their already worldwide Dark Horse Tour that has included such acts as Seether, Saving Abel, Hinder and Poppa Roach, just to make note of a few of the many notables.
The latest portion of the Dark Horse Tour kicks off on September 14 at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville and says its final fare-thee-well to the fans on October 30 in the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. In between, they plan to rock out the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh; the Times Union Center in Albany, NY; Colombus, OH's Nationwide Arena; the New Orleans Arena; and the Save Mart Center in Fresno, CA. Among others. We're happy to provide Nickelback's full tour schedule for you true fans.
The fall 2010 leg of the tour invites acts such as Buckcherry and Three Days Grace to join in the fun. Fans of rock 'n' roll won't want to miss this.

Opening This Weekend
Halloween might be a couple of months away, but it's never too early for a good scare. The Last Exorcism looks to deliver just that, a good scare. Horror is one of the few genres where a cast of unknowns actually improves the effect the movie has on you. After all, it's much scarier when the person in peril is someone just like you, and not an instantly recognizable face like Brad Pitt. While it might boast an under the radar cast, it's backed by horror aficionado Eli Roth. Films like The Last Exorcism, or Paranormal Activity prove that horror movies are really about the story, and not just re hashing of old 80's slasher flicks. If you feel like you haven't had a good scare lately, then go check this out.
Also opening up this weekend is the heist movie Takers. It sports an impressive cast of Matt Dillon, Hayden Christensen, Zoe Saldana, and plenty of other big names. Dillon plays a detective on the case of five bank robbers. I would expect plenty of plot twists and intrigue in this one. Bank heist movies are always a solid bet when it comes to action, and unexpected turns in the story. This movie certainly has a big enough cast to be a solid pick at the box office this weekend. If you're a fan of movies like The Italian Job, Armored, or Inside Man then Takers is for you.
Sylvester Stallone and his Expendables have held off the competition for the last two weeks, but I think their time is up. It feels like it's been a while since there was a really good horror film, and The Last Exorcism is getting a lot of buzz. I think Halloween comes early this weekend, and evil takes the top spot. Let us know what you think, once the credits stop rolling post a review on Eventful movies.

Minneapolis venues
The Mall of America in Minneapolis is 9.5 million square feet - approximately the size of 78 football fields. Yet, it didn't make the cut as one of Minneapolis' most happening venues. (Though, it's an excellent source of Mrs. Fields cookies.)
Here are some of the most popular spots to warm up in during the snowy season:
1. First Avenue: THE place for the hottest music shows touring through the Midwest like Ludacris and Thirty Seconds To Mars
2. Target Center: The hub for special events in Minneapolis like American Idols LIVE! Tour 2010 and the spot to root on the Minnesota Timberwolves
3. Fine Line Music Cafe: A club and live entertainment venue located in the Warehouse District where such acts as Lyfe Jennings and Tristan Prettyman bring the stage to life
4. Historic Orpheum Theatre: Home to a 2,000 pound chandelier and wonderful stage productions like Wicked and Billy Elliot
5. Varsity Theater: A U of M campus venue that hosts musical acts for any age like Cowboy Mouth and Matt Costa
6. 7th Street Entry: A mid-sized downtown venue that puts greats acts on stage like Hot Hot Heat and Breathe Own Breathe
7. State Theatre: A fantastic place to see stage performers like Louis CK, Margaret Cho and David Sedaris
8. Triple Rock Social Club: This is the spot to see the best under-the-radar music available like Fu manchu and Girl In A Coma
9. Guthrie Theater: The largest regional playhouse in the country and home to such productions as A Streetcar Named Desire and A Christmas Carol
10. Cabooze: Where future music legends play like The Dirty Heads and Kittonmouth Kings
There you have it. The best places for a break from splashing in the 10,000 lakes. But, if you can think of more, let us know by leaving a comment!

TECH N9NE'S INDEPENDENT GRIND TOUR 2010
Anybody in the mood to experience the most unique and groundbreaking voices in hip hop all together on one stage? Us, too. And, thanks to Tech N9ne's latest tour - The Independent Grind Tour 2010 - we all have a chance.
Record label Strange Music is pulling all of the stops for this series of events. Sharing the stage with Tech N9ne are hip hop legends E-40, Krizz Kaliko, Kutt Calhoun, Big Scoob, Jay Rock, Glasses Malone. They were going to try to add more artists, but the record label ran out. This is a full-service concert here, folks.
The tour kicks off in mid-September in Lincoln, Nebraska at the Pershing Center. Then, the tour hits nearly every major Midwest venue including The Rave in Milwaukee, Club Epic in Minneapolis and Venue 8 in Rapid City, SD. The tour inclines in elevation and hits such mountain venues as Denver's Fillmore Auditorium, The Saltair in Salt Lake City and The Wilma in Missoula, MT. The tour slides down the West Coast stopping at reputable venues like McDonald Theatre in Eugene, OR; Senator Theatre in Chico, CA; and the Catalyst Club in Santa Cruz, CA. The men stop to perform in cities across the Southwest like Tempe, AZ's Marquee Theatre; Albuquerque, NM's Sunshine Theater; and Trees in Dallas, TX. The East Coast gets a treat with shows in Hartford, CT's Webster Theatre; Baltimore, MD's Bourbon Street Ballroom & The Quarter; and The Norva in Norfolk, VA. The Uptown Theater in Kansas City, MO has the honors of hosing the last event of the tour on October 30.
43 live performances in under six weeks. There's a reason Tech N9ne has a reputation for being one of the hardest touring artists in hip hop today.
See if there's a show near you by checking out the full Tech N9ne Independent Grind Tour schedule.

Congregation of the Damned Tour
Some bands just can't get enough of the road. A good example: Atreyu. Those guys are just leaving the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival stage and already they've got a 30+ stop tour scheduled for October and November.
This is one of those tours where everyone is getting wrapped up by the hype, too. Mostly because of the other acts sharing the stage. blessthefall, Chiodos, Architects and Endless Hallway are all performers on the ticket.
The excitement is also building because the tour takes place in mostly small- to mid-sized North American venues where the fans can get closer and see better. The tour kicks off at the House of Blues in Anaheim on October 20. The tour climbs up the West Coast and hits venues like the Roseland Theaete in Portland and Seattle's Showbox SODO before it hops the US / Canadan border. A show in Saskatoon's Odeon Event's Centre and Winnipeg's Garrick Centre to name a couple stops hosted by our neighbors to the North. Then there's a handful of shows on the East Coast like at the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, NJ and Baltimore's Sonar. The bands escape to the warmth of the South to play some of Florida's more popular venues like Revolution in Fort Lauderdale and The RITZ Ybor in Tampa. Another sweep across the US to hit some venues in between like Cabooze in Minneapolis and Backstage Live in San Antonio before coming full circle and playing the last stop in LA's House of Blues - Sunset Strip.
Eventful's got the full tour schedule for Atreyu and the rest of the bands on the Congregation of the Damned Tour.

Opening This Weekend
Variety truly is the spice of life this weekend at the box office. In the mood for some classic campy horror action, in 3-D no less? Look no further than Piranha 3-D. What better way to end the summer than a movie about a lake filled with man eating fish? While some might be quick to write this off, I think Piranha could be a good pick for those looking for some fun gore. It boasts an eclectic cast with Jerry O'Connell, Ving Rhames, and even Richard Dreyfuss. Sci-Fi/Horror movies that take themselves too seriously can sometimes fall flat, but Piranha looks like it's embracing its 80's camp horror roots just enough to be a lot of fun.
Not in the mood to see people become fish food, want something a little more light hearted? Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman might have just the movie for you: The Switch. Hijinks ensue when Bateman's character swaps out a sperm donor sample for his friend (Aniston) with his own. This is one of those movies that looks like it can be both genuinely funny and heartfelt at the same time. Hopefully this movie can succeed in balancing the funny with the drama in the same manner as Knocked Up, which some might see as the gold standard for this type of film.
Not interested in the emotional stuff, and just want a laugh? Vampires Suck might be what you need. It looks to do for the Twilight Saga what Scary Movie did for Scream and other teen slasher flicks. So even if you're a fan, or not, of Twilight you should check this out. Every major franchise gets spoofed sooner or later, Star Wars had Spaceballs etc. So its fitting that Twilight finally gets a good send up. Though most of the cast might not be household names, it does feature Ken Jeong of The Hangover, and you can never go wrong with him.
If you're looking for a more kid friendly movie, then Nanny McPhee & The Big Bang has you covered. The first one was a surprise success when it came out, and the sequel looks to continue the magic. Emma Thompson is back in the titular role, warts and all, to shape up some unruly kids. Ewan McGregor and Maggie Gyllenhaal also make appearances. Families that enjoyed the original will also enjoy this one, as well as anyone looking for a fun family movie that mixes life lessons with a little magic.
Last but not least is an old school mad-cap comedy. In The Lottery Ticket, Bow Wow must dodge, avoid, and elude greedy neighbors when he hits the jackpot. It seems strange now seeing Ice Cube in the previews playing an old man. Maybe it's just me but it doesn't seem that long ago that he was playing the young Craig in Friday or even Doughboy in Boys in the Hood. Then again it also seems like just yesterday that Bow Wow was Lil' Bow Wow and starring in Like Mike with Jonathan Lipnicki…. whatever happened to that kid?
With so many movies this weekend, the top spot at the box office is a tough call. Lot's of different choices for theater goers will make it that much harder for one film to stand out. I'm going to go with The Expendables though, with so many choices I think it retains the crown. Whatever you see this weekend, remember to enjoy the show, and open your candy before the movie starts. No one likes to hear the plastic crinkling during a tense scene!

LA took Kourtney & Khloé away from Miami thanks to Eventful and E!
Eventful posed yet another great idea for a competition and the online community came out in the thousands to make this one of our biggest and best Demand competitions yet. Though, to be fair, the subjects behind the idea may have played a part in the success as well.
Eventful and E! Entertainment got together and ran a nationwide competition for fans to win a season finale viewing party of Kourtney & Khloé Take Miami called Kourtney & Khloé Take Your Town. The prize was a special screening of the season finale of the show with the sisters in attendance to mingle with their fans. Any city in the US was eligible to win, but the LA fans clearly showed their desire for the party and Demanded in droves.
The event took place on Thursday, August 12th at the Gold Class Cinemas in Pasadena, CA. The LA Demanders were able to meet and mingle with Kourtney Kardashian and her boyfriend Scott Disick (pictured above) before attending the season finale viewing party at the theater. The event went off without a squeak. Fans of the K sisters equally kept their cool and showed their enthusiasm to meet the impeccably-dressed Kourtney and Scott.
Yet another outstanding competition for Eventful in the history books thanks to the Kardashians and E! Entertainment.

Rush into a Time Machine
One of the more recognizable names in rock - and certainly one of the longest-lasting - is on the road to promote their 20th studio album with producer Nick Raskulinecz. RUSH, man. It's RUSH!
The idea behind the RUSH Time Machine Tour 2010 is to celebrate the music of RUSH from yesterday, today and a peek at the aforementioned album of tomorrow. Also, as a special surprise to the true RUSH fans, they're performing their album Moving Pictures in it's entirety for the first time on stage ever!
The tour is nearing its halfway point. The trio has already rocked out such venues as the Starlight Theatre in Kansas city, MO; Centennial Park in Sarnia, Ontario; Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT; and the Shoreline Amphitheatre in San Jose, CA. Just to name a few of the nearly 20 stops already in the record books
They're still slated to play at such summertime venues as the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Denver, CO; the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Maryland Heights, MO; the Minnesota State Fairgrounds just outside of Minneapolis; the Ford Amphitheatre at Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa, FL; and the guys finish it all off at the Cruzan Ampitheatre in West Palm Beach, FL where - even though it's the beginning of October at this point - summertime still seems to be in full force.
For a few guys that released their first and self-titled album in March of 1974, RUSH still knows how to put on a show. Here's the full RUSH tour schedule for those of us that are rushing to experience Rush.

Opening This Weekend
What a weekend to be a movie lover. Julia Roberts has been a Hollywood A-Lister for what seems like forever, but it feels like it has been a while since she has really "owned" a movie. While yes she has been in some quality movies over the last decade, it feels like forever ago that she dominated the big screen in 2000's Erin Brockovich. Eat, Pray, Love brings back the Julia Roberts that America knows and loves. The one that completely takes over a movie and really shines as the one true star. The movie is based on the popular novel of the same title, about a woman traveling the globe looking for the answers to life and love. This movie looks like it could be the perfect pick me up for anyone whose felt a little lost in this long summer.
One of the most buzzed about movie on the internet also opens today. Scott Pilgrim vs The World has been garnering a lot of attention for its unique concept, and style unlike anything that's come out recently. Michael Cera stars as the titular Scott Pilgrim, who in order to win the heart of a girl, must do battle with her seven evil ex's. It's based on a comic book series by the same name, but it looks to appeal to more than just comic fans. Cera has made a career of playing slightly awkward and gawky teenagers, so seeing him pick up a flaming samurai sword in the trailer is a welcome change of pace. Don't worry about Cera going totally Rambo though, this movie has a great humor and wit to it. Director Edgar Wright has proved that he can seamlessly weave action and witty dialogue together in two of his previous efforts, Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz (both personal favorites of mine). I'm calling this a must see for anyone who likes movies, there is simply too much going for this movie to ignore it.
Finally, the third movie opening this weekend is the one action fans have been waiting their whole lives for: The Expendables. Sylvester Stallone has assembled a dream team of action stars for what should be the most over the top, outrageous, and awesome action movie of the year. Anyone who has ever blown something up, or wielded dual assault rifles has a part in this movie. There are too many stars to name, so I will just throw a few out there: Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren and Terry Crews. If that's not enough to entice you, it features cameo appearances by Bruce Willis and the governator himself, Arnold Schwarzenegger. Time will tell if this movie can top the ultimate testosterone fest that is the original Predator, but based on the dream cast alone, it will give it a good run for it's money. If you love action movies, or just want to witness a piece of cinematic history, then check out The Expendables.

J-Beebs... Need we say more?
America's latest teen singing sensation is about halfway through his North American summer/fall/early winter tour and it couldn't be going better for him. Justin Bieber is currently on the road promoting his first full studio released album My World 2.0 (a follow-up to his debut album My World)while on his nearly 80-stop tour appropriately called My World Tour.
Bieber is booked at literally the largest stadiums across the continent and even those are bursting at the seams from his onslaught of fans fighting through the doors. He's already played for packed houses in Hartford's XL Center, Qwest Center Omaha, SLC's Maverik Center and San Fran's Oracle Arena. Just to name a few of the 40+ sellout shows he's already put on while sweeping around the US.
And he still has another lap to go!
He's about to hit Value City Arena in Colombus, OH tomorrow night. Then, he travels north of the border to his Canadian homeland where he'll put on shows in Toronto's Air Canada Centre; London, Ontario's John Labatt Center; and at the Scotiabank Place in Kanata, Ontario. He heads back to the States to play a few shows for his hoard of New York and New Jersey fans at the Prudential Center and Madison Square Garden. He plays the East Coast and Canada for a while longer before skipping across the country to give the West Coasters some music. He hits Ontario, CA's Citizens Business Bank Arena and one of LA metro's few shows at the Honda Center. He sweeps the South by performing at San Antonio AT&T Center, the Greensboro Coliseum Complex in North Carolina and the St Pete Times Forum in Tampa before considering the tour coomplete by playing the last show at Atlanta's Philips Arena.
Listing all of Justin Bieber's remaining tour dates would make this post go on forever. He is literally one of the busiest people in the business today. Eventful has Just Bieber's full tour schedule available.

Driver's insurance? Psh.
It's the season of the festival, whether it be music, food, culture, etc. And the season for state/county fairs. Along with this season comes some pretty unique events. Like the demolition derby.
For those unfamiliar with the spectacle, it's basically when a bunch of people drive their fortified and beat-up old cars to a big muddy pit. Then, once applying the practical safety precautions, they proceed to ram into each other until there's only one working car left among the rubble. Typically, this takes place in a fairground's arena. However, there are some events that take place on a racetrack such as the Figure 8 Race.
There are a bunch of demo derbies already on the calendar. Mostly Midwest events taking place in cahoots with other big celebrations as noted above. There's one derby coming up at the Iowa State Fair. Another is taking place at the Missouri State Fairgrounds. BUT, the intentional fender-benders aren't strictly a MW event. They stretch as far west as the Pueblo County Fairgrounds and even cause some destruction in California at the Pomona Fairgrounds.
Here's a more complete demolition derby schedule. But, if we missed any, feel welcome to add your destruction motorsport event here.

Opening This Weekend
The last couple of weeks have been very good to fans of comedy. Last week was Dinner for Schmucks starring Steve Carell. This week funny man Will Ferrell is back in theaters with The Other Guys. Co-starring Mark Wahlberg, The Other Guys is about a couple of misfit cops who try to become unlikely heroes. It's directed by Adam McKay who did Step Brothers, one of my favorite Ferrell comedies. Instead of playing a complete goofball this time around, Ferrell seems to be channeling his character from Stranger Than Fiction as the straight man. It looks like there is a lot to enjoy with this movie, from Eva Mendes as Ferrell's impossibly hot wife, to Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne Johnson as the cliched super cops. The Other Guys looks like a definite must see for comedy fans.
If you like dancing, and 3-D, then I have just the movie for you. Step Up 3-D combines everything you loved about the first two movies, gratuitous amounts of dance sequences, and makes them jump off the screen in 3-D. Unlike the first Step Up with Channing Tatum which leaned very heavily on the fish out of water love story, this movie looks like it is making dance the main focus this time around. Fans of the Step Up series know exactly what to expect from a movie like this, lots of high energy and fun dance routines. If you're looking for something different at the box office, this could be a nice change of pace.
I was a little off the mark last week when I predicted Dinner for Schmucks would top Inception, but the difference between the two was small. For this reason, I think The Other Guys is a safe bet for the number one spot. What do you think? Feel free to leave a comment, or write a review.

Denver venues
In Denver's first few years of existence, it was destroyed twice. Once by a fire and another time by a flood.
Hopefully preventative measures have been put in place to keep these grand venues intact:
1. The Fillmore Auditorium: A large and very popular music venue where fans go to enjoy big-name shows like Band of Horses and Social Distortion
2. Ogden Theatre: A national landmark as well as a popular place to take in music like Sonic Youth and Of Montreal
3. Paramount Theatre: Originally a spot for old-timers to take in a silent film, now it's where funny woman Margaret Cho spins her yarns and baker Buddy Valastro mixes his batter
4. The Bluebird Theater: One of Denver's premium live entertainment venues and home to acts like Cloud Cult and Hot Hot Heat
5. Pepsi Center: THE spot to take in a WWE Smackdown live event or an Avalanche hockey game
6. Marquis Theater: A premier venues of choice for up and coming acts like Boris and Fireworks looking to break into the music industry
7. INVESCO Field At Mile High: Here's where Denver residents root on their Broncos to victory
8. The Denver Coliseum: This venue is host to a multitude events including: rodeos, motor shows, concerts, dances, exhibits, trade shows and Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey: Barnums Funundrum
9. Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom: A unique venue serving up unique entertainment the likes of Living Legends and Input
10. Buell Theatre: A venue designed to provide the audience with a first-rate theatrical experience for such first-rate shows as Straight No Chaser and Shrek The Musical
There 'tis. The top ten Denver venues according to the Eventful community. If there are any that we missed, leave a comment and let your voice be heard.

America Is Too Stable
For those of us that are already dreading the finale of the 2010 Vans Warped Tour before it's even over, there's hope.
Mere days after the bands on Warped Tour bow the last time to the audience, another US & Canada tour emerges: The Destabilize North America Tour. Headlined by Haste The Day and Enter Shikari, this is the tour that will sustain the fans of modern day punk-rock and "happy hardcore" music until the next Warped Tour. Circumnavigating North America for over six weeks and making nearly 30 stops, all fans of the bands and the musical genre should have a good chance of experiencing the live show.
The bands kick off the tour in the beginning of October at the Shadowplay Lounge in Houston. They swing through the South hitting such Floridian venues as The Social in Orlando and the Orpheum - Ybor City in Tampa before climbing up the East Coast to hit stages in The Ottobar in Baltimore and the Blender Theatre at Gramercy in NYC. The bands spend some time in the frozen North - before it freezes, hopefully - by playing the Underworld in Montreal, Station 4 in Saint Paul, MN and the Avenue Theatre in Edmonton, AB. Then, it's off to the rain and fog in the Pacific Northwest when they bands take stage at Portland's Hawthorne Theatre, Seattle's El Corazon and San Fran's Slim's. The tour finishes the circle rounding the Southwest corner by playing at Chain Reaction in LA, then The Underground in Mesa, AZ and finally back in Texas by closing the tour in San Antonio's White Rabbit.
The tour is ably backed by rockers Sleeping With Sirens, Ms. White and Lightsgoblue. Here's the full list of tour dates.
