Opening this weekend
Benjamin Franklin once said, "Only two things in life are certain, death and taxes." I think if he were alive today he would add a third: A Saw movie opening Halloween weekend. This year marks the Saw VII, the "final" entry into the successful horror franchise. Looking back it's hard to believe Saw's humble beginnings as a low budget thriller have grown into the horror behemoth that it is. This time around they've added 3D to the mix, which should work nicely with all the crazy traps the series is famous for. Whether or not Saw VII is indeed the final entry is something that only time will tell. But as anyone knows, when it comes to horror movies, all bets are usually off.
Between Paranormal Activity 2 and Saw VII, this Halloween is looking like a great time to go to the movies for a scare. If you're really feeling bold, try making a late night double feature out of it. Just don't forget to check under the bed before you go to sleep though. While Paranormal ruled the box office last week, Saw owns Halloween, so I'm giving the number one spot to Jigsaw and his creepy little puppet. I don't think tricycles have ever been as scary.
Eventful is the place to find all of the scary movies in theaters this weekend. Also, don't forget to leave a haunting review after the movies. Once you're done with that, dive into your pillow case full of candy and enjoy the holiday!

St Louis venues
Many people instantly think of ragtime, jazz and blues music when they hear the city name of St. Louis.
Which is probably why there are so many fantastic music venues to choose from. Here's our top ten list:
1. The Pageant: A fancy movie palaces / vaudeville theaters that have been turned into a music venue that's considered to be one of the best in the nation thanks to shows by Lifehouse and Iron and Wine
2. Fabulous Fox Theatre: A venue offering a "dazzling array of talent and entertainment twelve months a year" including concerts by greats like John Mellencamp and special events like A Christmas Carol productions
3. Scottrade Center: One of the area’s leading venues for sports and entertainment as home to the St Louis Blues hockey club and massively popular shows like Usher's OMG tour
4. City Museum: Housed in the 600,000 square-foot former International Shoe Company, this is where the imagination runs wild thanks to events like the incredibly popular everydaycircus
5. The Duck Room at Blueberry Hill: A secret and hidden basement venue where some huge acts like Donavon Frankenreiter and Tea Leaf Green play when they're in the mood for an intimate audience
6. Busch Stadium: Home to the St Louis Cardinals - who coincidentally won the World Series in their first season in the new stadium
7. Cicero's: A local favorite because of the delicious pizza, their over 200 available beers and really great live shows by the likes of Luster and Mark Sweeney
8. Off Broadway: A venue that consistently features musical acts of both local and national fame like Band Of Heathens and Ben Kweller
9. Creepy Crawl: Located in beautiful Grand Center in midtown St. Louis and specializing in all types of contemporary, alternative and underground music such as Cavashawn and Maelstrom
10. Chaifetz Arena: The St Louis University athletic stadium that hold the St. Louis Billikens Mens Basketball games
End scene. But, we'll be happy to start a new scene if you know of venues that we missed. Let us know your favorites!

Interpol tours on Interpol - It's Interpol squared
One of the few bands to not only survive the post-punk revival of the 2000s but to thrive after it is authoritatively named Interpol. (The word is actually the name of an official international agency that coordinates the police activities of more than 100 member nations to fight international crime.) And, they're touring on their latest album - also authoritatively named Interpol.
This is an interesting tour, however. Once their fourth studio album was completed, their bassist / keyboardist & original band mate Carlos Dengler decided to leave the foursome to pursue personal projects to him. Once the band announced their coming tour to support the self-titled album, they also announced that he would be replaced - for the tour's purposes as of now - by two people: David Pajo as their new bassist, and Brandon Curtis as their new keyboardist and backing vocalist.
The tour wouldn't be one of only a headlining nature, however. Interpol was announced as openers for portions of U2's 360° Tour. However, an injury that Bono sustained forced the cancellation of the majority of these shows. But, that doesn't mean that there's any lack of live concerts in their near future - domestic or foreign.
They're about to finish up their US concerts by playing venues like the Verizon Wireless Theater in Houston, the Tabernacle in Atlanta and the United Palace in NYC. Then there's the Europe leg where they perform at Lisbon's Campo Pequeno, Milan's PalaSHARP and Vienna's Gasometer. In the UK, they put their feet on the stages of Nottingham's Rock City, and a few times in Dublin's Olympia Theatre, and a couple more at London's O2 Academy Brixton. Finally, the surf AND the volume's up when the guys storm Australia to bring their unique sound to Sydney's Enmore Theatre, Brisbane's Sunset Sounds and Melbourne's Palace Theatre.
These are just a sampling of all the shows that Interpol is about to put on. Check out Interpol's complete tour schedule for the rest.
Even if there's no show near you, if you're a fan of throbbing bass, harmonized guitar and a wild snare mix from a band where each member has an equal part, you should at least give Interpol's Interpol a listen.

Weezer is on the road...that road being Memory Lane
Everybody's favorite nerd-alt-rockers are on the road again. Which is great! Weezer is back on the tour path after releasing their latest album, Hurley. Which is great! BUT, they're not performing any music from the album during this tour. Which is...strange.
The band's lead man, Rivers Cuomo, said curing an MTV interview, "We have this really exciting idea to do a tour where we spend two nights in each city. The first night, we play the entire 'Blue' album. The second night, we play the entirety of Pinkerton." At first it was just an idea. But then venue promoters started warming up to the notion. It didn't hurt that Weezer fans across the country were screaming in support. After all, " The Blue Album" and Pinkerton are arguably the band's most successful and celebrated albums. (Weezer released three singles from " The Blue Album": "Undone - The Sweater Song", "Buddy Holly", and "Say It Ain't So." "Buddy Holly" won several MTV awards that year, and " The Blue Album" eventually went double-platinum.)
There are already dates on the board for The Memories Tour:
- The Gibson Amphitheatre in LA: They'll perform " The Blue Album" on 11/26/2010 and Pinkerton on 11/27/2010
- Masonic Auditorium in San Fran: " The Blue Album" is performed onstage on 11/29/2010, Pinkerton on 11/30/2010
- Orpheum Theatre in Boston: The guys play " The Blue Album" on 12/14/2010 then, just a day later, they perform Pinkerton on 12/15/2010
- Roseland Ballroom in NYC: " The Blue Album" then Pinkerton, 12/17/2010 then 12/18/2010
- Aragon Ballroom in Chi-town: Weezer is on stage rocking out " The Blue Album" on 01/07/2011 and then - believe it or not - they rock out Pinkerton on 01/08/2010
The word's not out yet on whether or not they'll encore the fans with tracks from Hurley, but it's probably a safe guess that they'll give the fans a little taste of the the next chapter in their discography.
If your town's not listed, don't worry. More dates may be added depending on ticket sales and fan feedback. For updates, check back to Weezer's full tour schedule every now and again.

Michael Bublé continues to Love his Crazy Tour
A couple weeks more than a year ago, Michael Bublé released his latest album, Crazy Love. It is a daring album in that he recorded some standards to be included that have already been superbly sung by the vocal jazz greats. For instance...
The first track of the album is a heart-bleeding rendition of Cry Me A River. Typically, those that enjoy the tune primarily know it because of how famous Ella Fitzgerald's rendition rightfully became. A couple tracks later, he genuinely makes us believe that he is mindful of a girl - or a US state - when he sings Georgia On My Mind. A feat difficult to do after the way both Billie Holiday and Ray Charles romanced the song. And, as if that weren't enough of a challenge, Bublé takes on the late, great Dean Martin when he singe You're Nobody Til Somebody Loves You.
But, when one makes a living on reviving old-timey love songs for a modern-day audience, he runs the risk of being compared to those that sang the songs first. Certainly Bublé was aware of this when he first took on such an ambitious project.
Did he succeed? That is the question. Which is a difficult one in that it's ultimately up to each listener to decide. BUT, the current world tour he's on - The Crazy Love Tour - is indicative that he succeeded in spades.
Michael is a bit over midway through the tour and has already played about half of the romantic cities in the world. He was in New York City and performed in front of a 13,000+ sold-out crowd at Madison Square Garden. A few stops later, he sang for a sold-out crowd just shy of the NYC numbers at the Allstate Arena in Chicago. Then the Key Arena in Seattle. Then LA's Staple Center.
The tour leaves the US (for the first time) so he can bring his loving melodies to the rest of the world starting with the UK where he plays the Echo Arena in Liverpool and the O2 Arena in London. He's in Milan, Italy playing at the MediolanumForum. And the Hallenstadion Zürich in Switzerland. And Burce in Paris, France.
Then, he's back in North America to do it all over again. He plays a couple US shows - including one in New Orleans' at the New Orleans Arena - before headed north to play a few Canadian shows where he jets through Montreal to play the Bell Centre and the Air Canada Centre in Toronto.
Then he's back in Europe for another dozen or so shows. Then back in the US for another dozen. Finally, Bublé and crew wrap up the tour in Australia in early March, 2011. The Down Under stops include a pair of shows at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre, a handful of shows in Sydney's Acer Arena - including a Valentine's Day event - and Melbourne's Rod Laver Arena.
And, that's only about 15% of the tour - which has unofficially sold over 99% of the available tickets combined.
Still wondering why we're chalking this album up as a success? You can't argue with the numbers.
If you're curious if the any of the 1% of available remaining tickets are for a concert near you, check out Michael Bublé's full tour schedule.

Opening This Weekend
If you've been using Eventful for the last year, chances are you've seen us promote a little movie called Paranormal Activity. Thanks to our wonderful users, it reached a million Demands and opened nationwide to rave reviews. Almost one year later exactly, Paranormal Activity is back with a sequel. Paranormal Activity 2 pits a brand new family against creepy unseen spirits. With a bigger budget than the first, you can expect more elaborate scares this time around. Suspenseful movies like this are always more fun in a dark, crowded theatre so be sure to check this one out on the big screen.
It's hard to imagine a movie directed by Clint Eastwood flying under the radar, but that seems to be the case for Hereafter. The movie stars Matt Damon as a person with the ability to communicate with the dead. Over the course of the movie he helps several people deal with their own experiences involving death. Dealing with the supernatural is not really something one would expect from Eastwood, but if anyone knows how to handle the subject of death and loss, it's him. I have yet to find an Eastwood movie I didn't enjoy, so I would say this is definitely a safe bet.
As good a director as Eastwood is, I'm liking Paranormal Activity 2 for the top spot in the box office. It's too close to Halloween and people loved the original. Be sure to log on to Eventful and write a review of the movie you just saw, especially if you're too scared to go to bad after a late showing of PA2.

Sacramento venues
In 1852, a fire razed nearly 90% of Sacramento. Two years later, the city was rebuilt and declared the capitol of California.
A few years after that (give or take 100), these fun venues went into business:
1. Arco Arena: THE place Sacramento residents go for a huge show like Nickelback or a huge ball game involving their Sacramento Kings
2. Crest Theatre: One of the city’s last standing historic theaters that offers a spotlight to the likes of Robin Williams and Adam Carolla
3. Empire Events Center: If you live in Sacramento and want to see 3OH!3 or The Grouch, you're going to love this place
4. Harlow's: The perfect mid-sized venue for grooving to the tunes of Fishbone and Cold War Kids
5. Sacramento Convention Center: Indoors, outdoors, large or small, this is the venue for all kinds of events including the California State Home & Garden Show and Sacramento Philharmonic events
6. Powerhouse Pub: A loud place (in terms of volume, visuals and vivacity) that invites suiting bands to play the crowd like the Erin McKinney Band and Another Damn Disappointment (A.D.D.)
7. 1600 Exposition Boulevard: The place to go to learn how to get the job done thanks to The Woodworking & DIY Show and The Log & Timber Home Show
8. Blue Lamp: Touting themselves as Sacramento's Premier Live Music Venue...and they might be right due to shows like Petty Theft and Greg Laswell
9. Laughs Unlimited Comedy Club: For those that are serious about laughing, here's the joint because of performers like Kermit Apio and Donald Lacy donning the stage
10. Marillyn's on K: A nice, clean spot for an after-work drink and to catch local and national talent such as TracySoul and The Quinn Hedges Band
That's all she wrote, folks. Unless you have more Sac City venues you'd like to add to the list.

Bill Cosby is on tour - possibly with Jell-O pudding pops
Who would have thought that this many years after The Cosby Show (for those of you ready to feel a bit older, the last episode aired 18 years ago) that Bill Cosby would still be such a headline-maker? But, thanks to mild confrontations with the likes of Wanda Sykes and the Oakland School Board - both for promoting the use of Ebonics - the prolific comedian / jazz enthusiast / earner of a doctorate in education can't seem to escape the spotlight.
But, maybe that's how it should be. With all the things he's accomplished in his public life, it's hard for us to escape him. From eating Jell-O desserts to watching Fat Albert on late-night Nickelodeon to every time we quote him when a child spouts something ridiculous, "Kids say the darnedest things." These are all reasons he remains in our lives.
Though, he's not done yet. Late in 2009, he released a hip-hop album featuring current music greats like Alicia Keys, LL Cool J, and Eric Clapton. When asked how releasing a hip-hop album is going to help his campaign to empower and educate Black America, he said to listen to the music. He said that it won't encourage the listeners to be violent, racist, sexist, etc. The music will discourage people from these things. From listening to the album, Cosby said, "...You're not going to curse. You're not going to put women down. You're not going to put the glory of the gun somewhere." He said that the album is powerful because of the things it won't make a person want to do.
Mr Cosby is also taking his words on the road. He's currently touring the continent to share his wisdom and wit with packed houses studying his every grammatically-correct sentence. In the last two months, he's already performed in the East Coast: Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa in Atlantic City and the Champlain Valley Expo in Essex Junction, VT. And he's performed in the North: Atwood Concert Hall in Anchorage, AK and the Capitol Theatre in Chatham, Canada. And the West: Christopher Cohan Center at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo.
His future dance card is overflowing with dates, too. He's in the Midwest performing at the Akron Civic Theatre in Akron, OH and the Dow Event Center in Saginaw, MI. And he's going to spend some of the winter months in the warm South when he performs at the Philharmonic Center for the Arts in Naplexs, FL and the BJCC Arena ion Birmingham, AL. He's not leaving out the Midwest, either, when he goes to Chicago to entertain the audience in the Chicago Theatre or to Tulsa to put on a shot at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center.
Basically, Bill has been everywhere and is going everywhere in the name of entertainment, education and clean living.
And, it's not too late for you to check out a show. View Bill Cosby's full tour schedule to see when he and his one onstage prop - a chair - are in the spotlight near you.

Just when you think Sade hasn't toured in a while...
It's been nearly a decade since Sade was on the road last promoting her 2000 album Lovers Rock. Now, with the release of her latest album release which contains the chart-topping single of the same name, she's back and the massive venues of North America can't get her name on their tickets fast enough.

The 51-year-old singer has been quiet for a long time. But, with this recent reemergence, she's proving that her flavor of music - sexy, cool, thoughtful - is one that will never grow old for the music-consuming public. And, the numbers support this: Billboard has her album within the top five most selling so far in 2010.
The initial plans for the tour are modest with only ten dates set so far. Kicking off in mid-June at the 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore, the tour is currently set to first linger in the East stopping by venues like the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia and the Izod Center in NYC. Then, Sade will take her band to entertain our neighbors to the North by stopping at Air Canada Centre in Toronto and Bell Centre in Montreal. Back to the states to seduce her Chicago fans at the United Center before a couple LA shows at the Staples Center and Honda Center. More shows are rumored to be scheduled in cities such as Atlanta, Las Vegas, New Orleans and Vancouver, BC. Check back to Eventful for Sade's full tour schedule.

In the band's 25 years together, Soldier Of Love is only the 6th studio-produced album. Perhaps that's why music fans everywhere are so in a buzz over it. For a band to stay relevant considering today's quickly changing musical tastes and trends, it takes an exceptional talent to keep it's listeners listening with so little said. Not many musicians know how to accomplish this like Sade does. Which is why we'll wait another four years for her next album if we have to.

Columbus venues
In 2010, Columbus was voted as the manliest city in the country. It was also voted the city with the most salad consumed in the country.
Manly men on a diet. We can appreciate that. We can also appreciate these great Columbus venues to check out:
1. Nationwide Arena: An indoor multi-purpose facility to take in a Roger Waters concert or a Columbus Blue Jackets NHL game
2. Newport Music Hall: This is "America's Longest Continually Running Rock Club" thanks to a schedule lined with fun performances like Michael Franti and Ingrid Michaelson
3. The LC Pavilion: Nominated for “Best New Major Concert Venue” by Pollstar Magazine in 2001 because only big-name bands such as 311 and Ben Folds get to grace the stage
4. Value City Arena: Situated on the campus of the Ohio State University and is the largest arena in the Big Ten Conference for fans to cheer on the Ohio State Buckeyes or take in a show by the likes of Bob Dylan
5. The Palace Theater: Another massively successful Columbus venue because acts like Styx and Sarah McLachlan and productions like Cats like performing there
6. Columbus Crew Stadium: The first major league stadium built specifically for soccer in the United States and host to the Columbus Crew home soccer games
7. The Ohio Theatre: With classical performances like The Nutcracker and Les Miserables, this is the place for people of all ages to soak up some culture
8. The Alrosa Villa: An in-your-face type venue that's been "rocking Columbus for more than 36 years" with shows like Saving Abel and Mushroomhead
9. Skully's Music Diner: The prestigious winner of three Columbus awards including #1 Best Dance club, #1 Best Pleases to Rocknroll and #1 Best Ladies Night - and still offers such toe-tapping shows as the Spikedrivers and The Secret Handshake with A Cursive Memory
10. Funny Bone Comedy Club and Cafe: The place to exhaust your uproarious laughter due in part to LOL-arious shows like CMAGAZINE FI-NAL-E Wednesday
So go. Take in a rock concert. Or a classical performance. Or a comedy show. And, don't forget your greens.

The Rocket Man tours with The Master of Space and Time
For those of you not hip on musicians' nicknames, that means that Elton John is touring with Leon Russell. Which is exciting for everyone that likes rockets and the conundrum of the space-time continuum. Or for those of us that like good tunes.
The two virtuosos kick off the tour on October 19th at the Beacon Theatre in New York City. That is coincidentally the same day as when The Union is released - the album that the guys are promoting via this mainly US-based tour. The album was produced by the one and only T Bone Burnett and is thusly extremely anticipated by the music-listening community.
After the New York opener, the gentlemen make a quick trip across the Atlantic to play a show in London's Roadhouse before returning to the states for a couple Californian shows: The Hollywood Palladium in LA and Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, CA. Then a few more shows in the desert: US Airways Center in Phoenix, AZ and the State Farm Arena in Hidalgo, TX. Then a couple more in pleasant Florida: The Lakeland Center in Lakeland and the Daytona Beach Ocean Center.
The aforementioned shows are all part of The Union Tour. But, the guys also have a few shows mixed in there when they take part in T Bone Burnett's Speaking Clock Revue such as one in The Citi Performing Arts Center - Wang Theatre in Boston and another at the Shorline Amphitheatre in San Jose, Ca.
Basically, we're trying to tell you that there are plenty of chances to see these two music legends share a stage - even if it requires a drive. Take a look at Elton John's full tour schedule and plan ahead. And, don't forget about Leon Russell's tour schedule. For, they don't always perform together. Which is why The Union is special.

OMG! Usher is on tour
Since the late 1990s, fans of R&B have often spoken - or perhaps shouted - the name Usher. With the release of his sophomore album My Way, Usher basically guaranteed himself a spot in the hearts of all female R&B fans. Now, more than ten years later, he's a newly single man and wooing women around the globe from the recording studio again.
2010 has been a good year for Usher so far in terms of the studio. Early in the year, he released an album called Raymond V. Raymond. The album may connect with anyone recently out of a relationship since he wrote it fresh from his divorce from Tameka Foster. The album sold more than seven million tracks and ringtones combined. The, mere months later, he released a sequel to the album called Versus. Here's where he pours on the charm, ladies. As evidence by the hit single "There Goes My Baby."
Now, to promote these two new albums, User is going to showcase his dance moves on stages all around the world in his coming OMG Tour. He is supported on the tour by fellow R&B superstars Trey Songz and Miguel. The tour kicks off in the US and travels to various venues such as the Key Arena in Seattle; the Scottrade Center in St Louis, MO; the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit; and Chicago's Allstate Arena. He spends a bit of time in Canada performing at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto and the Bell Centre in Montreal before he skips the pond to entertain his European and UK fans. There's a show in Berlin, Germany's O2 World; at the Halle Tony Garnier in Lyon, France; and another at the Le Zenith located in Fribourg, Switzerland. For the UK folks, User is scheduled to perform at the SECC - Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre in Glasgow and the O2 Dublin as well as the Echo Arena in Liverpool.
From the beginning of November until the end of March - from one corner of the planet to all the others. User makes certain that anyone and everyone that wants to see him perform live has the chance to do so. Here is User's full tour schedule. Tickets for nearly all of the 58 stops are already for sale, so don't wait too long for your chance to see the show. Cheer loud enough and you have a chance of becoming the next Mrs Usher Raymond.

Rock Supergroup Alter Bridge to Release AB III on Alter Bridge Recordings/EMI Label Services
Alter Bridge will release the highly anticipated AB III on Alter Bridge Recordings via EMI Label Services on November 9, 2010. Alter Bridge’s latest release, AB III, comes on the heels of their hugely successful releases “Blackbird” and “One Day Remains.”
AB III is an incredibly intense and dynamic offering proving Alter Bridge continues to grow and evolve with each album. “We went into the process of putting the record together with a lot of confidence,” band founder Mark Tremonti reveals, “but we didn’t go into it looking to be commercial, or to have radio singles. We just wanted this to be an album that pleased us artistically, through and through.”
Mike Harris EVP EMI Label Services comments “Alter Bridge is one of the quintessential arena artists. They write music generations can relate to. We are thrilled Alter Bridge decided to make EMI Label Services their home.”
The acclaimed band formed in 2004 by Grammy Award winning guitarist, Mark Tremonti ( Creed), features front man Myles Kennedy (lead vocalist for Slash's solo touring band and Mayfield Four) and former Creed band members, Brian Marshall and Scott Philips.
Lyrically, the first two albums are based on themes immersed in hope and perseverance in the face of adversity. On AB III, however, the theme has shifted. “This record is definitely a departure from the last two albums in terms of its subject matter. It touches on the thoughts and emotions of someone who has come to question everything that was once regarded as an absolute truth. It’s the realization that everything you once believed in might not exist.” Kennedy states.
The first single, “Isolation” is being well received at rock radio as it showcases Alter Bridge’s ability to play and write aggressively while maintaining their signature melodic component. However, Isolation is unlike previous singles in that it's moody and features very dark lyrics.
Alter Bridge is also on tour to promote AB III. Here's Alter Bridge's full tour schedule.

Bassnectar promotes his latest album...by touring!
If you've got a second and the attention of Lorin Ashton - the brains behind Bassnectar - he'll describe the music project a little like this: Bassnectar combines sound and force with weight while spanning the spectrum of sonic style, covering every genre imaginable, and smashing it all into a collision of wobbling, perverted basslines, hypnotic hide-and-seek adventures, and pretty much anything that strikes my fancy.
We couldn't agree more.
And, we're excited that there's a tour in the works to promote Bassnectar's latest album aptly entitled Wildstyle. It includes 6 new tracks and will include extra remixes, presumably as a digital bonus. It will be the focus of his 2010 Fall Tour. And, if the music is anything like his previous works, nobody will be able to listen to Wildstyle and sit still. It'll make anyone move.
Evidence of the excitement behind this album are the North American venues in which he was able to book. He's about to play the House of Blues - San Diego tonight and then a short trip to LA where he plays The Wiltern Theatre. A few more shows and he heads inland to put on shows for the good people of Lawrence, Kansas at the Liberty Hall; and those that will attend the show in the Bluebird Nightclub of Bloomington, Indiana fame; and the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago. Halls, nightclubs and ballrooms. Bassnectar doesn't discriminate. There are a few stops in the East like The Hat Factory in Richmond, VA and The Electric Factory in Philadelphia (Factories, too?) before he departs the US for Canada. There, he puts on shows for the audience in Calgary's Symons Valley Ranch, Edmonton's Edmonton Event Center - West Edmonton and Vancouver's PLUSH Nightclub.
Here is the full Bassnectar tour schedule for those that want to be in the know. For those already in the know, share the schedule with anyone you think would like the fusion of youth culture and social action.

Opening This Weekend
Unless you've been living in a cave for the last six years, odds are you've heard of a website called Facebook. Since debuting to college students in 2004, Facebook has gone on to become one of the most frequented sites on the internet. The new movie The Social Network tells the story of Facebook's formative days. Normally people might think a movie about a website couldn't possibly be interesting, but the involvement of director David Fincher is definitely cause for notice. In case you aren't familiar with the name, this is the man that brought us Fight Club, Seven, and Zodiac which are all quality films. Up and comer Jessie Eisenberg takes on the role of Facebook's controversial founder Mark Zuckerberg. The script was written by the talented Aaron Sorkin whose previous works include The West Wing (TV) and A Few Good Men. With all of these elements, the writer, director, and lead actor The Social Network is shaping up to be must see. Go check it out, and tell all your friends on Facebook you're watching the Facebook movie.
If you're looking for something a little bit darker than Facebook, the Let Me In could be the movie for you. Vampires might seem like a concept that has been run into the ground lately, but Let Me In puts such a fresh take on the genre it should feel totally new. The movie stars Kodi Smit-McPhee, who certainly held his own in The Road, and rising star Chloe Moretz (Hit Girl from Kick-Ass). McPhee plays a loner who is constantly bullied until one day he meets a strange girl (Moretz). Let Me In looks like a great movie to start off the fall season, it's dark and moody with a chance for some creepy scares. After you check this out, be sure to look up the Swedish film it's based off of, Let The Right One In, or vice versa.
If you just can't get enough horror, then also check out Case 39. Renee Zellweger stars as a social case worker who winds up taking in a troubled young girl. As you would expect, since this is a horror movie, things begin to go south. Bradley Cooper and Ian McShane round out the cast. This looks like one of those horror movies that slowly plays up to very big pay off, sort of in the same vein as The Ring and The Grudge. So if you're a fan of the more psychological stuff with some good sudden scares, this should be up your alley. A fun and quasi-interesting fact: this movie was actually filmed a few years ago and has already been out internationally for over a year.
So with two horror films, and one "based on a true story" film, what takes the top spot at the box office. Maybe it's just because I spend most of my time on the internet, but it feels like The Social Network has been picking up a lot of buzz in the past few months. With as many people that use Facebook, and David Fincher's near spotless record as a director, I say The Social Network will come out on top. Don't forget, you can Like your favorite movies on Eventful, and even write reviews after you've seen them. So get out there and go see some movies, and if you're watching a horror movie with someone else, it's not polite to squeeze their arm to death during the scary parts.
