UK venues, vol I

We thought we'd take this edition of popular venues across the pond to the foggy town of London...where the name "Big Ben" actually refers to the 13 ton bell at the top of the clock tower and not the tower itself - which is known as St. Stephen’s Tower.

Downtown London

Here are some other London venues with famous names. And rightly so!

1. The O2: An extremely popular venue easily recognized by its distinctive dome-like shape and first-class entertainment like Paramore, Lord Of The Dance and 30 Seconds To Mars.
2. HMV Hammersmith Apollo: undoubtedly one of the capital's top live performance venues, a feat that is evidenced by the list of musical acts such as You Me At Six, Drake and Ben Folds.
3. Wembley Stadium: Boasting a capacity of 90,000, the new Wembley Stadium London is the second largest stadium in Europe and is home to the English international football team for matches such as England v France.
4. Royal Albert Hall: A venue created with a view to fostering a greater awareness and appreciation for the Arts and sciences and host to such eclectic events as Ninja Tune XX present The Cinematic Orchestra & Amon Tobin and Rufus Wainwright.
5. O2 Shepherds Bush Empire: Much of the aesthetic appeal of this venue stems from its having retained the beautifully ornate architectural design from its original construction. It has become a favorite stage for performers like Spoon and Adam Lambert.
6. KOKO: This is one of the most sought after and highly acclaimed small to mid-size live music venues in Europe. Which is why such acts as Broken Social Scene and As I Lay Dying wait patiently for their turn in this particular spotlight.
7. Manchester Evening News Arena: The largest indoor arena in Europe and one of the busiest music venues in the entire world, attracting over one million people annually. Probably because their event schedule is lined with top-tier artists the likes of Gorillaz and Andrea Bocelli.
8. Barbican Centre: A venue that provides a platform for a wide range of artistic endeavors; theater, dance, art, film, music and education. It's the host to events as unique as the Kafka Fragments and Jazz Voice - Celebrating Century of Song.
9. O2 Academy Islington: A venue offering an intimate feel from both the audience's and performer's perspective - undoubtedly part of the allure for major acts such as God Is An Astronaut, Suga Shikao and Steve Lukather
10. SECC - Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre: A spot housing five main exhibition halls, two auditoria and 31 meeting rooms, the SECC Glasgow is the ideal venue for a wide variety of events like A Question Of Sports Live, The Country Living Magazine Christmas Fair and Jools Holland and his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra to name a few.

Remember, this is only the first edition of our London venues entry. Keep posted for the next. In the meantime, let us know if you've visited any of these and how your stay fared.
