As if the film biz wasn’t hard enough, there are a handful of big time Hollywood actors that are trying on another hat in the music industry. Some are pretty successful at it. There’s Jared Leto in the incredibly popular emo band 30 Seconds to Mars. Jack Black represents 1/2 of the energetic Tenacious D acoustic rock band. And Jason Schwartzman is the former drummer for Phantom Planet, a Coconut Records project. That’s just to name a few of the goodies. Though, we can’t ignore the stinkers. Basically it’s a gamble for any recognizable person to try a new art since they’re already under the at-times ruthless scrutiny of the masses. And we do love to talk about the blunders of celebrities. (Oh, how we love it!) Sometimes, though. Just sometimes it works out.
After starring in such iconic films as Field of Dreams, Dances with Wolves and The Bodyguard (and he’s STILL hard at work creating gems like the upcoming Superman film Man of Steel), most people thought of Kevin Coster as an actor. A good actor. And we didn’t demand much more from him. But it turns out that he wasn’t quite satisfied with his resume himself.
Costner decided to surprise the world by strapping on a guitar and putting together a band called Kevin Costner and Modern West. A country band. A good country band. And they’re quickly gaining fame due to hit songs such as “Let Me Be The One” that he sings alongside his own daughter:
The band has been together for just five years and they’ve already recently released their 4th studio album called Famous for Killing Each Other: Music from and Inspired By Hatfields & McCoys, which is the soundtrack that he wrote and performed for the TV mini-series that he starred in called Hatfields & McCoys. The album reached 14th on the US Country Billboard charts and is still receiving positive buzz.
He’s also lending his musical talents to support military families with his song ”The Angels Came Down” which he wrote for all of the gold star wives – a group of women that lost husbands, sons or daughters to warfare:
There is literally no time for Costner to breathe between his already successful acting career and his budding music stardom. BUT, he might make time to visit your town if you and all your friends/family Demand him to! With enough Demands, the Modern West will also travel north, south or east in order to put on a great show for their growing number of fans!
