      Richard Leigh Songwriters Festival

This Memorial Day weekend, a group of Nashville's leading songwriters will gather on the campus of Virginia Highlands Community College, joined by up-and-coming talents from our region, for a three-day-long celebration of song.

Grammy Award winner Richard Leigh (VHCC class of 1973) will headline this special event and will be accompanied by several of his friends from the prestigious Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. Together, they will take the stage on Saturday evening to perform a selection of their hit songs that have been recorded by country music's top artists.

The festival honors the work of Richard Leigh, a 1973 graduate of Virginia Highlands Community College who earned a Grammy Award for Don't it Make My Brown Eyes Blue, a No. 1 hit recorded by country superstar Crystal Gayle. Over the course of his songwriting career, Richard has been honored with numerous awards and written dozens of hits for country music's elite.

All proceeds benefit VHCC's Great Expectations Program. The program is dedicated to helping our region's foster youth reach their educational and career goals.
