      "A Quilt Gathering"

The 29th Annual Golden Needle Quilt Gathering quilt show will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2019, from 9:30am to 4:30pm in the west gym of the Almond-Bancroft School. The quilt show is free and open to the public.

The show consists of projects made by the Golden Needle members, surrounding quilt clubs and any interested individuals who want to show their quilted items. The show is free to those attending and features bed quilts, table runners and wall hangings.

At 10:30 in the auditorium, our guest speaker will be Caryl Brix from Wautoma, WI. You won’t want to miss Caryl’s Trunk Show, “Paducah Quilts Plus”. While showing her wide variety of quilts, she will discuss how she has handled her overflowing scrap bin along with some of the resulting quilts. She will include the beautiful quilts which have been accepted into the Paducah Quilt Show every year since 2012.

This year the Golden Needle raffle quilt is a queen size quilt called “Rings & Pinwheels”. The raffle also consists of secondary prizes. Tickets are available at the show, at the Portage County Bank in Almond and from quilt club members ahead of time. The quilt will be on display at the Portage County Bank in Almond during July.

For those wanting to participate, a 50/50 fat quarter raffle will be held immediately after the guest speaker presentation. All those bringing a fat quarter will have a chance to win half of all fabric brought in, with the other half going to the club for charity projects they do throughout the year. The fat quarter should be 18”x 22” of fabric consisting of 100% cotton. You must be present to win.

The guild contributes to many charities, including Alzheimer’s fidgety quilts, baby quilts for an orphanage in Jamaica, local benefits and Quilt of Valor quilts to our local veterans. We also sponsor a Family Holiday Basket. The guild sponsors a day bus trip each September to Quilt Expo in Madison. This year some members are featuring their work for sale at the new coffee shop, Adelante, on Main Street in Almond.

The show is in conjunction with the Almond Lions Club, “Tater Toot” festival. A car show, parade, activities for the children, music and a charcoal - chicken and pork chop dinner are featured during the event.

Quilters interested in exhibiting in the show should contact SuAnn Pagel-Rast at PO Box 176, Almond, WI 54909, by calling 715-366-2595 or by email at
