      EVENT DETAILS
      Guest Speaker Laurie Stras

Laurie Stras is a research professor of music from the University of Huddersfield, United Kingdom. Her talk, "What Does It Mean When a Woman Sings?", will set out some of the ways in which the Renaissance women's voices were both championed and decried, and how their singing was framed by protocols of modesty and virtue enacted by both performers and listeners. It will then highlight some of the ways in which women's voices have been considered in the 20th and 21st century performances of Renaissance music, as a prompt for further discussion.

Tuesday, October 29th at 4:30 P.M. in IASH Conference room LN 1106. Free admission.
