Participants will gain a competence in the basics of 2D and 3D design and design thinking, as well as operations of 3D scanning and desktop 3D printing. Once mastered, participants will formed into teams of three member where they will creatively solve a design problem using the concepts taught. Students will engage in hands-on and iterative 3D printing activities to demonstrate the knowledge and design skills gained through the camp. Get your thinking caps on and join us in solving a design problem with 3D printing! Learning Goals: Camp attendants will be able to… Demonstrate basic sketching skills Understand and generate basic technical drawings Demonstrate 3D modeling skills Understand and demonstrate effective design process Use Fusion 360 3D-CAD software Understand working principles and the operation of 3D printer Solve design problem using design thinking principles Structure: Informed by the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) this camp is developed to promote computer assisted drawing (CAD) literacy among youth. The primary goal of this camp is to teach the main principles of engineering drawings and digital modeling skills. The ability to understand and practice effective design procedure will help develop spatial comprehension, creative and critical thinking. The team design assignment adopted in the camp is aimed at enhancing problem solving ability and collaboration skills. In the first half of the camp, participants will be introduced to and gain a competence in the basics of 2D and 3D design and design thinking, as well as operations of 3D scanning and desktop 3D printing. The camp attendants will be assigned a design challenge, in which they will be formed into a team of two to three members where they will creatively solve a design problem using the concepts taught in the camp. The purpose of the design challenge is to allow students engage in a hands-on and iterative 3D printing activity to solidify the knowledge and design skills covered in the class.
