      Day One:  INTRODUCTION TO AUTPLAY THERAPY: A PLAY THERAPY AND BEHAVIORAL THERAPY APPROACH Day Two:  BOOKS AND BOARD GAMES:USING BOOKS AND BOARD GAMES IN PLAY THERAPY Presented by: Jason Grant, EdD,LPC, NCC, RPT-C, CAS Dr. Jason Grant, EdD, LPC, NCC, RPT-S, CAS owns and operates a private clinic in Missouri that specializes in play therapy techniques with children, adolescents, adults, and families. Dr. Grant also specializes in working with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Neurodevelopmental Disorders, and Developmental Disabilities and is the creator of AutPlay® Therapy, an Autism treatment using Play Therapy, behavioral therapy, and relationship development approaches. Dr. Grant has authored several publications and has written four books on the subjects of play therapy, Autism, and ADHD including the bestselling AutPlay Therapy book. Dr. Grant conducts various presentations and workshops on topics such as play therapy and Autism. Dr. Grant has conducted trainings and workshops throughout the United States and has presented at various area and national conferences including the American Counseling Association, the American Mental Health Counselors Association, and the Association for Play Therapy. The phases of treatment, primary and secondary target goals, and parent involvement will be covered. Several play therapy interventions designed for children with ASD will also be presented through experiential participation, session clips, and case examples. OBJECTIVES: At the end of this training the participants will be able to 1) Identify the components of AutPlay Therapy including the phases of treatment and parent/family involvement.    2) Outline the theoretical underpinnings of AutPlay Therapy including play therapy models and behavioral therapy. 3) Demonstrate the assessment process in AutPlay Therapy, including conducting an autism screening.                 4) Identify play deficits and plan how to structure effective play therapy interventions for children with ASD.            5) Explain the three primary and three secondary target treatment areas in AutPlay Therapy.                                    6) List several 2 play therapy interventions used in AutPlay Therapy. This training will examine Bibliotherapy (the use of books in therapy) and play therapy. Several themed books such as those covering anger, autism, trauma, and grief will be presented with accompanying play therapy interventions. This training will also explore using popular and therapeutic board games in play therapy and each participate will have the opportunity to create their own therapeutic board game! Objectives: At the end of this training the participants will be able to 1) Explain the history and theory of Bibliotherapy.2) Incorporate Bibliotherapy into play therapy treatment goals.3) Identify several play therapy interventions that incorporate books.4) Outline how to effectively incorporate board games in play therapy treatment goals.5) Identify how to engage in board game play (popular and therapeutic).6) Explain how to create their own therapeutic based board games to support play therapy sessions. OPTIONAL-PLAY THERAPY INTERACTIVE SESSION (12:30-1:30) 1 Clock Hour CE Certificate Awarded for those participating only. DESCRIPTION: This activity provides an opportunity for play therapists to share books that have therapeutic values with child clients. During the activity participants will have time to expand on the materials presented in the morning session on Bibliotherapy creating intervention strategies to incorporate into the play therapy sessions that can incite therapeutic progress. Participants are asked to come prepared to share at least one book during this time that have therapeutic value in the playroom. OBJECTIVE: At the completion of this session participants will identify one play therapy intervention discussed during the activity that supports the therapeutic progress using Bibliotherapy.  Facilitator:  Dawn White, LPC, RPT:  Ms. White after 23 years as a science teacher in middle and high school classrooms in Chesterfield County, she embarked on a new professional path and started a second Master’s degree at Columbia International University, completing a dual degree in clinical counseling and marriage and family therapy in 2010.  It was during the second Child and Adolescent Therapy course in early 2010, that she attended her first SCAPT Conference and recognized how her experience as a teacher was being uniquely merged with her new career as a Licensed Professional Counselor.  She began a small private practice in Chesterfield County in November 2010.  Within two months she realized the value of the extra training in play therapy as over half her clientele were children and families.  While she presently continues to practice privately, Dawn joined PFM Counseling in January 2013, as an in-house therapist at Palmetto Family Medicine in Cheraw. In February 2015, Dawn became a Registered Play Therapist, and she is in the final phase of certification as an Emotionally Focused Therapist. She serves as the current SCAPT President Elect   CONTINUING EDUCATION INFORMATION: To receive Continuing Education credit and a certificate for this event the participants must complete all sign in requests and return an evaluation at the end of each day at check out. Certificates will be disseminated after all requirements are reviewed.   Continuing Education: This event is sponsored by the SC Association for Play Therapy (APT Approved 99-06 ) and provides continuing education specific to play therapy with approval from the Association for Play Therapy (APT). This conference carries 12 Continuing Education Clock Hour Credits (CONTACT)and 1 Continuing Education Clock Hour Credit (CONTACT-Optional)specific to Play Therapy.
