      Volunteer Archaeology Lab

Have you ever wondered what archaeologists do after they complete an excavation? Where do the artifacts go? Answer - the archaeology laboratory for processing and analysis! Did you know that for every day archaeologists spend in the field they spend about a week in the laboratory washing, sorting and analyzing the artifacts that they uncover? The laboratory component of archaeology is where the story of the past starts to come together as archaeologists analyze artifacts and add to our collective human history. Now you can help the SCDNR Archaeology team as a laboratory volunteer!   FAQs Are there minimum age requirements? Volunteers of all ages are welcome. Individuals under 18 must be accompanied by a legal guardian at all times. What are my parking options? Free parking is available for SCDNR Archaeology volunteers in the north and south parking lots of Parker Annex Archaeology Center. Free parallel parking is available on Barnwell Street to the east of Parker Annex Archaeology Center.   Do I have to bring my printed ticket? No. You can provide your name to an SCDNR Archaeology team member at the front desk of Parker Annex Archaeology Center. All volunteers are required to sign a Volunteer Release Form prior to entering the laboratory.
