Bard in the Quad 2019: Romeo and Juliet

Bard in the Quad returns for its 14th season with William Shakespeare’s enduring tale of star-crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet. Performances run August 1-4 and 8-11 at 7:30 p.m. in the Memorial Union Quad on the Oregon State University Campus. Bard in the Quad 2019 is sponsored by the Corvallis Club, Pacific Coast Pellets, and Block 15.

Set amidst the thrilling glamour of the Roaring ‘20s, two powerful families are embroiled in a long-standing and violent feud. Sparks fly when their children, Romeo and Juliet, meet by chance at a party and begin a secret and passionate affair. Meanwhile, the tumultuous conflict between the Montagues and Capulets grows deadly causing the young lovers to attempt a dangerous plan to defy the odds and be together. Featuring witty beloved characters, exciting fight sequences, dance numbers, and familiar Jazz music, this production is a fast-paced, funny, and heart-felt take on a romantic classic.

Directed by Elizabeth Helman and with the fight choreography of Ted DeChatelet, the Romeo and Juliet cast features Bard in the Quad veterans and OSU students Thomas R. McKean and Genesis Hansen in the roles of Romeo and Juliet. OSU students Lindsey Esch (Mercutio), Alessandra Ferriso (Benvolio), Josh Gasaway (Tybalt), AJ Glessner (Paris), Chloe Grover (Lady Capulet), Samantha Johnson (Rosaline), Mack Powers (Montague), Josh Smith (Balthasar), Zielle Walsh (Lady Montague) and community members Joshua Burlock (Prince), Marina Alvarez (Nurse), and Matt Holland (Capulet) also join the cast. OSU Vocal Performance faculty Anthony Eversole takes on the role of Friar Laurence.

A box office facility located in the center of the MU Quad opens each performance evening at 6:30 pm. This is an outdoor performance and no seating is provided.
