      Hamilton, Part II: George Washington

Darien Library is pleased to welcome back, musicologist, Dr. Gil Harel. Join Dr. Harel as he explores and analyzes the second - and sometimes overlooked - act of the transcendent work of ‘Hamilton’.

Act I of Lin Manuel Miranda's acclaimed musical tells the story of Hamilton's meteoric rise during the tumultuous period of the Revolutionary War. With so much excitement and character development, Act II may seem comparatively ordinary on paper.

The establishment of the U.S. banking system, for example, doesn't necessarily convey the same level of action as the Battle of Yorktown. And yet, the second act is full of memorable moments, including the introduction of Thomas Jefferson, the famous cabinet battle scenes, and perhaps the most iconic, the saga of the "Reynolds Pamphlet." The show ends with a sobering and thoughtful meditation on the notion of legacy - a theme which has been alluded to throughout the duration of the show.

Broadway may be closed, but on December 1st, you can bring a piece of Broadway to your living room.About the Presenter
