White House Media Panel on Campaign 2020: Trump, Democrats, and Road to the White House

November 3, 2020 will mark the 59th quadrennial U.S. presidential election. Compared to the
abbreviated parliamentary elections overseas, winning the White House appears to be a battle fought
hard in all media, and the very nature of the presidential election process adds challenging layers of
So who better to bring perspective to the 2020 presidential campaign, incumbent President Donald
Trump, and the many people vying for the Democratic Party nomination than journalists, political
commentators and columnists Mary Katharine Ham, Karen Tumulty, and Alexi McCammond. Steve Scully,
the voice of C-SPAN and Chairman of Global Summit XI, will serve as moderator.
Mary Katharine Ham, 39, is a journalist, author and noted speaker. As a CNN Political Commentator,
she brings a conservative perspective mixed with a humorous take on politics and pop culture. Ham
was previously a Fox News contributor from 2007 to 2015, most often seen as a libertarian foil to Bill
O’Reilly’s populism on his prime-time show. Ham has written for USA Today, The Weekly Standard, and
appears periodically on NPR’s “All Things Considered.” She is the co-author of End of Discussion: How the
Left’s Outrage Industry Shuts Down Debate, Manipulates Voters, and Makes America Less Free (and Fun).
Karen Tumulty, 63, is a columnist for The Washington Post. In her previous role as a national political
correspondent for the newspaper, she received the Toner Prize for Excellence in Political Reporting.
She joined The Post in 2010 from TIME magazine, where she had held the same title. During her more
than 15 years at TIME, Tumulty wrote or co-wrote more than three-dozen cover stories. She also held
positions with TIME as congressional correspondent and White House correspondent.
Alexi McCammond, 25, is a political reporter who covered the 2018 midterms for Axios, reported from
the Democratic National Convention, the presidential debates, and President Trump’s inauguration. Her
work has also appeared on Bustle’s Instagram, MSNBC, Fox Business, WJLA, WNYC, among others.
Before Bustle, she covered Marco Rubio’s campaign during the 2016 New Hampshire primary for the
      Sarasota Tribune.
Steve Scully, born and raised in Erie, is the political editor and host of C-SPAN’s popular daily show,
Washington Journal. In addition to his extensive experience in journalism, Scully, 59, interned for U.S.
Senator Joe Biden and served as staff assistant in Sen. Edward Kennedy’s media affairs office. He earned
his Master’s degree in Journalism at Northwestern University’s Medill School
of Journalism. Steve and his wife, Katie, have four children, Mary Cate, Danny,
      Cristen, and Natalie Cathleen.
