Gold Coast Business Laughter Club Comedy Extravaganza

THE next Gold Coast Business Laughter Club Comedy Extravaganza at Quality Hotel Mermaid Waters on September 27 will feature a jam-packed line-up of comedians from south-east Queensland. Our headline act will be Robbo da Yobbo - who is different to Robbo the Yobbo from the last event. They all have their unique flavour and we can't wait to see this Robbo. The Fiddly Gigglers will be back as your hosts and MCs. Denzo is a comic who has never acted his age, which is good because he would have to be in bed too early. He's crazy, wacky, fun and he is, as he would say, 'spanking the age barrier'.  Denzo has performed throughout south-east Queensland, north Queensland and northern rivers of NSW. He is also co-author of the ‘Making Fun Work' book and walks his talk on stage. Then we have Luke Lewis, who has been performing comedy for just over 3 years from Brisbane to Lismore, Byron Bay and northern rivers. He has just finished headlining a sold-out show at this year’s Brisbane funny festival alongside some of south-east Queensland’s best upcoming comics.  He was a state finalist in 2019 Triple J’s Raw comedy competition. This has opened up so many doors with new comedy rooms in Queensland, Adelaide and Tasmanian, where he performed at the Boags brewery during the Tasmanian fringe festival. Another new comedian joining us for the first time at the Laughter Club is Finbar. The 20-year-old comedian has been turning heads across south-east Queensland for a little over a year. In this time, he has produced over three full length shows to sold out crowds and his most recent show 'The Holy Kickons' was the best seller of the 2019 Bris Funny Fest. His unpredictable style ranges from punchy one liners to clever observational humour and pretty much whatever he feels like on the night. Whatever it is, Finbar's bound to leave you wishing curators gave him more stage time. Giggle Girl Robyn Smartt will warm up your laughter muscles with a fun, enlivening laughter yoga segment incorporating playful ideas. Also performing will be The Fiddly Gigglers and Native American flute player Walter Smith. The Fiddly Gigglers are made up of the hilarious giggling founders of the Gold Coast Business Laughter Club - AA Xpose Media director Aldwyn Altuney and Twos Company director Tracey Korman. Crowd favourite Native American performer Walter Smith (aka Walks on Wind), and regular at Animal Action Events for 7 years, will also relax the crowd with his mesmerising flute play. The Gold Coast Business Laughter Club aims to help reduce stress, anxiety and depression among business people. “About one in three people in Australia now have depression or anxiety,” Aldwyn said. “With the Club, we want business people to loosen up, live longer, relax and create great connections through laughter.” All proceeds will go to each of the organiser’s cause of choice, which for Aldwyn is the Land of the Free project and for Tracey is the Vinnies CEO Sleepout for people facing poverty and homelessness. The Land of the Free project is a documentary and international action plan, supported by celebrities such as Priscilla Presley, Tippi Hedren and Sir Roger Gale MP, which aims to expose the worst forms of brutality involved in endangered species trophy hunting and get international legislation changed. Some of the animals currently targeted for excessive brutality in their slaughter include lions, elephants, giraffes, bears and snow leopards. Land of the Free will also be the beneficiary of proceeds from the 13th Animal Action Night for Big Cats at Quality Hotel Mermaid Waters on October 5, 2019. The club was launched as a Meetup group at the Quality Hotel Mermaid Waters on August 30, 2018, with a performance by international comedian/ magician Michael Bennett. “Interestingly, Tracey, Michael and I have had depression and are all in business,” Aldwyn said. “I have also had four friends aged between 31 and 45 take their own lives, which is absolutely tragic. I set up the annual Good News Day online on August 8, 2018, to help inspire more positive news in the mass media as nearly one million people worldwide take their own lives. That’s one person every 40 seconds! “Together, we can all make a difference and in general, business people could do with a few more laughs in their life.” The night will begin with networking over dinner in the downstairs Lonestar Tavern bistro from 5.30pm, followed by the Comedy Extravaganza upstairs at the Quality Hotel Mermaid Waters from 7 to 9.30pm. Tickets are only $15 + bf each, 2 for $25 + bf online or $20 at the door. Please connect with us on Meetup, Facebook and follow us on Eventbrite. Hope to see you there!
