      Poetry, Paintings and Pieces of Wood by Harry McVey

      Harry McVey was born in Scotland and emigrated with his family when a young lad. He worked on sheep stations and farming before joining the A.I.F. in 1918, then returned to farming and timber falling in the Canungra district. It is scenes from these early days which influenced his painting and poetry.  On Saturday, 2 November 2019, an exhibition of Harry’s works will be on display at the Beaudesert Community Arts & Information Centre Hall, 14 Enterprise Drive, Beaudesert, Queensland, Australia, 4285 (next to Dick Westerman Park).See samples of Harry's art here: Artworks will not be for sale, however copies of Harry’s book “Poetry Paintings and Pieces of Wood” will be on sale for $10each or 2 for $15.All proceeds will be donated to Beaudesert Bush Bards.The exhibition will be open from 8am and will close at 1pm. A professional photographer will be on site to photograph all the original artworks in preparation for a catalogue of Harry’s works. Betty Markwell Bush Poetry Performance Competition Alongside the exhibition, the Betty Markwell Bush Poetry Performance Competition will be held. Betty Markwell was the eldest daughter of Harry McVey. This poetry competition, in her honour, is to promote the enjoyment of Bush Poetry, another of Harry McVey’s hobbies.Betty was a founding member of the Beaudesert Bush Bards and active community member in the Beaudesert area for many years, participating in the Girl Guide Association, the Bowls Club, Toastmasters to name a few.For full details go to: exhibition and poetry competition coincides with the Beaudesert Markets.
