The training provides you with a comprehensive appreciation of traditional facilitative mediation principles, encompassing evaluative mediation techniques. 1) Module One (7 - 9 February) This module is suitable as a stand-alone course for those interested in entering the growing market for qualified mediation representatives, this introductory module provides the essential baseline skills to enable delegates to develop and expand their proficiency as a party representative. This training will provide you with a detailed introduction to facilitative and evaluative mediation with no formal assessments. 2) Module Two (12 - 13 February) This module is for those seeking qualification as an RICS Accredited Mediator. This intensive two-day training programme builds upon the skills acquired on Module One to develop your practical skills as a mediator. This module is intensely hands-on with coaching and feedback throughout the role play exercises. Delegates participate in role play scenarios based on real life cases, acting as mediator and party with instructor and peer feedback. This course is HKMAAL accredited. Lead Trainer Dr John Fletcher, Group Director, ADR Products - RICS John was born in South Africa took his B Com LLB from Rhodes University and his M Phil and PhD inadministrative law from Cambridge. He returned to SA and practised as a barrister at the Johannesburg Bar for ten years in a civil commercial practice with some constitutional work. John is the ADR Products Group Director of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and is responsible for RICS’s global Dispute Resolution Services (DRS) including arbitration, adjudication, dispute boards, mediation, expert witnesses and conflict avoidance. Prior to working for RICS, John was the Projects Director for ADR Group. He developed their international joint ventures in South Africa, Europe, Brazil, the Caribbean and other developing countries; their UK workplace mediation service; and their mediation training in UK universities. At RICS John has overseen the extensive development of DRS services both in the UK and internationally. DRS is now active in seventeen countries on five continents and offers training, accreditation, panel membership, administration and appointments in all of the dispute resolution disciplines listed above. DRS now also provides bespoke dispute resolution and conflict avoidance consultancy; has moved into the areas of planning and consumer disputes, and is working in close association with major institutional and business partners in several countries. John has also spearheaded the creation of the International Coalition for Conflict Avoidance which is growing rapidly in the infrastructure and construction industries, and serves on the steering committee of the UK Civil Justice 2020 initiative.
