Founded in 2005, Riot Fest began as a multi-venue festival before settling in Douglas Park. In addition to the original Chicago festival, Riot Fest successfully expanded to locations in Denver and Toronto. The festival is run by the same dedicated and diehard fans that publish Riot Fest Magazine, and benefit from connections from some of the most legendary bands in the punk genre. These ties have led to some of the most acclaimed performances from bands like Andrew W.K., The Suicide Machines, The Lawrence Arms, and Alkaline Trio, as well as unprecedented reunion shows by Screeching Weasel, Misfits, Jawbreaker, and Blue Meanies.

The addition of carnival rides, good food, cold beer, and the Hellzapoppin Circus Sideshow Revue provides a boisterous atmosphere perfect for the head-banging, mosh-inducing music that draws thousands of diehard fans to Douglas Park every year. Fans of legendary punk and alternative acts from yesteryear and today couldn't act for a better environment or lineups, and ensure Riot Fest's place as one of the biggest music festivals in the country.

Riot Fest has included quintessential punk bands like Iggy And The Stooges, Descendents, Bad Religion, Screeching Weasels, Henry Rollins, NoFX, Patti Smith, Social Distortion, Sleater-Kinney, Pennywise, Bad Brains, Jawbreaker, Hot Water Music, Buzzcocks, and Rise Against.
