Cancelled: Archaeology in the Classroom: Workshop for Teachers, Interpreters and Museum Docents

      This event has been cancelled.

Bring archaeology into your classroom! Explore how archaeologists investigate and interpret past cultures and peoples. Use archaeological data for scientific inquiry and problem-solving activities in the classroom. Archaeology is a discipline that integrates readily with science, math, social studies and language arts curricula.

Workshop participants will use the “Project Archaeology: Investigating Shelter” curricula to investigate a historic slave cabin at Thomas Jefferson’s Poplar Forest. This case study easily translates to Missouri’s own history. This case can be used to engage students in history, scientific research methods and archaeological stewardship through hands-on activities and civic dialog. Participants will receive instruction in archaeological science for the classroom and a complete curriculum guide.

The workshop includes optional field trips to Jefferson Landing State Historic Site, Missouri State Parks' Riverside Collection Facility and the University of Missouri's Museum of Anthropology.

Registration deadline is June 15. Enrollment is limited to 25 people. Call Tiffany Patterson at 573-522-6949 to reserve your spot.
