Congressional App Challenge District 3 Kick-Off Meeting

Congressional App Challenge District 3     CGI, CajunCodeFest, Waitr , Opportunity Machine and the School of Computing and Informatics at UL Lafayette, in cooperation with Congressman Clay Higgins, have joined forces to support District 3 and STEM education for local middle and high school students through the Congressional App Challenge (CAC). Our mission is to encourage local students to participate in the competition, connect teams with local mentors, and highlight their hard work with an awards ceremony in December. Students, Team Mentors, Chaperones and Guests - Join us on Tuesday, August 27 for the kick-off/informational meeting. Refreshments will be provided. Please register under the appropriate category. What is the Congressional App Challenge? The challenge is a public effort to encourage kids to learn how to code, through annual district-wide competitions hosted by members of Congress for their district. Their mission is to: 1.   Inspire students from every corner of the country to explore STEM, coding and computer science through hands-on practice; 2.   Include and engage students from communities that are traditionally underrepresented in the tech community; and 3.   Innovate policymaking by connecting members of Congress to new and emerging technologies through personal interactions with their student constituents. What do students submit? Students create an app on any topic, use any platform (web app, desktop/PC app, a web browser extension, robot, Ruby on Rails, mobile, etc.), and develop using any programming language (Java, JavaScript, Swift, C/C++, C#, Python, Ruby, PHP, “block code”, etc.).
