Free Peripheral Arterial Disease Screening- Franciscan Health

Come get a free Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) Screening on Sept. 20 from 8 a.m. to noon. The PAD screening will be held at the Franciscan Education center, located at 1501 Hartford Street, Lafayette.

PAD is a clogging of arteries in the leg that can be life-threatening if left untreated. An estimated 12 million Americans have PAD, increasing their risk of death from heart attack and stroke by two to six times. PAD can decrease blood flow to the legs and feet, resulting in muscle fatigue and pain when walking and can lead to amputation, disability and diminished quality of life.

The method to screen for PAD involves an ankle-brachial index (ABI). This is a common test used to screen for PAD. It compares the blood pressure in your ankle with the blood pressure in your arm using a regular blood pressure cuff and a special ultrasound device to evaluate blood pressure and flow.

Other screenings offered include cholesterol, heart risk assessment, body composition, hearing screening, fall risk assessment and diabetes education.

Guests should use the entrance on the lower ramp to the Education Center off 16th Street. Parking is available in the garage on Tippecanoe Street. Handicap parking is available on the lower ramp and behind the main entrance.

This screening is free, but registration is limited and required. To register, please call at (765) 449-5133.
