"The Soldier's Tale": Story Night with the Shoreline Music Society

You are invited to join the conversation as Shoreline Music Society presents Igor Stravinsky's "The Soldier's Tale". A narrated theatrical work accompanied by seven instruments, the work is based on a Russian folk tale called "The Runaway Soldier and the Devil" and was conceived by Stravinsky and the Swiss writer C. F. Ramuz in 1918. The piece relates the parable of a soldier who trades his fiddle to the devil in return for unlimited economic gain. The music is scored for a septet of violin, double bass, clarinet, bassoon, cornet, trombone, and percussion, and the story is told through three characters: the soldier, the devil, and a narrator. The performance will take about an hour; your evening with Shoreline also includes conversation and discussion with Artistic Director Robert Nordling and the performers.
