St. Martin Young Adult Camping Trip 2019

If you enjoy tent camping, hiking, prayer and fellowship with friends out in God's beautiful nature this is the trip for you!   Registration ends July 16 by midnight for camping Registration ends July 25 by midnight for hiking - Hikers will need to pre-pay for their parking spot! (new rule at Uvas)   We have a group site for 50 people, so we will have to close the overnight camping option after 50 ppl sign up.    We will have an informational meeting on Wednesday July 17th at 7pm in the Bailey House at St. Martin of Tours: 200 O'Connor Drive, San Jose, CA, 95128  This camping trip is supported by a grant awarded to SMYA by The Catholic Community Foundation of Santa Clara County. Huge thanks to CFOSCC!!! Please See FAQs for more information or email with 'SMYA Camping' in the subject line.   FAQs I can't get out of work that early on Friday, what are my transport/parking options getting to the event? We will leave from St. Martin of Tours in 2 groups at 3:30pm and 6:30pm on Friday, or you can meet us there, if those times don't work for you. Our registration included parking fees for 12 cars. After that there is a $10 fee overnight fee per car so carpooling is encouraged. We will carpool back to St. Martin of Tours as well so you can leave your car there over the weekend. We plan to leave Uvas around noon and arrive back at St. Martin of Tours around 12:45pm   I don't own a tent/sleeping bag/ etc. Can I still come? You don't have to own a tent/sleeping bag/etc. to come. We will borrow from friends and family to make sure we have gear for everyone. If you have extra gear that you are willing to share (camping chairs, tents, sleeping bags) let us know in the comments section of your registration or send us an email.   I'm coming with my friend, can I make sure we are in the same tent group? We have a group campsite so we will all be in the same area. We will help group people into tents to make use of the tents we have. Unless married, we will designate tents as 'ladies' and 'gentlemen.' You may definitely help us out by letting us know if you are coming with a friend you want to share a tent with. And by telling us how many people fit comfortably in your tent if you are bringing one.     What is the restroom situation? There are structured bathrooms both near the campsites and in the day-use section of the park that have flush toilets, real sinks and foam soap. Both are stocked with toilet paper. There are also coin operated hot water showers at Uvas. Do we have to bring enough bottled water for the whole weekend? There is a spigot at our campsite with potable water, so we will not need to bring bottled water or pump water.    What can/can't I bring to the event? We will send out a list of what to bring to camping participants as we get closer to the trip. You are strongly encouraged to bring a musical instrument, games to play, and an open heart.  Everyone is asked to bring a snack to share. The Organizing team will be providing all the food for Friday dinner through Sunday breakfast.   What will we do on the camping trip? We will have prayer time together each day and a whole weekend of fellowship. Saturday morning we hope to have Mass and a hike (order of those is TBD). Saturday afternoon we will have options for games or more hiking. Sat evening we will have Praise and Worship and S'mores!    I would love to join you for the day on Saturday, but I am unable to spend the night. Can I do that? You may! We have a $15 option to just join us for the day. You will also need to prepay  ($6) for your parking spot at Uvas (go to and Click on 'Event Tickets' and select Uvas park (new regulation they implemented to make sure everyone who drives there has a spot to park). Then you can park in the day-use area and join us in the late morning (time TBD- probably 9am) for Mass, hiking, lunch and dinner on Saturday and whatever other fun things we do that day. You should come to the planning meeting (see other FAQ) for details on when to arrive on Saturday.   Where can I contact the organizer with any questions? Feel free to email  with 'SMYA Camping' in the subject line if you have any questions.    Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? No. We will have your name on a registration list. No need to bring a ticket.    What is the refund policy? 100% until July 19. No refunds available after July 19. Sorry.  Why did the price increase from last year? For the past 3 years we have been supporting the majority of the costs for the camping trip with money generously given to the St. Martin of Tours Young Adult group by the St. Martin of Tours parish. However, due to low funds at the parish the St. Martin of Tours Young Adults Ministry no longer recieves  this funding from the church. (However, the parish is helping us apply for a grant so we hope to continue all of our regular events and we are very greatful to them for this support). That being said we need to be financially responsible and cover the cost of our events by charging for them or asking for donations. We hope that you won't find $50 to be too expensive to join us. We are providing Friday dinner through Sunday breakfast and a wonderful location to camp and hang out with friends. If you find that you are unable to afford the camping trip expense due to the increase in price, but want to come, please contact us and we will see what we can do to help. Just email  with 'SMYA Camping' in the subject line.
