Make a Difference: Overdose Awareness Event

International Overdose Awareness Day is a global event held August 31st each year to remember those gone too soon from overdose deaths. In 2017, we lost 1,268 lives in Tennessee to an opioid overdose. Death following opioid overdose is preventable if the person receives basic life support and the timely administration of the opioid antagonist naloxone. Since most overdoses are witnessed by a friend or family member, if a friend or family member had access to naloxone, he or she may be able to reverse the effects of opioid overdose, while waiting for medical care to arrive.

The State of Tennessee is hosting a week of trainings across the state to raise awareness and reduce the number of overdose related deaths by distributing naloxone kits. Tuesday, August 27th at 6:00 p.m. Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church will partner with ASAP of Anderson
to host an overdose training and distribute overdose reversal kits with naloxone free of charge and open to the public.
