      October Herbal Beer Brewing Workshop

      SATURDAY, OCTOBER 19 / 10AM - 4PM Join us for this hands-on workshop with herbal beer brewing maven, Tara Welty, in the new Cedar Lane Farm Kitchen. This is an immersive 6-hour exploration of the entire herbal beer brewing process. You will brew-it-yourself from start to finish!  You will learn The history & lore of the entire herbal beer brewing process Brewing & bottling techniques How to source herbs - both wild and commercial A discussion on different medicinal and culinary herbs that can be incorporated into herbal beers Tips on storage, aging & safety This workshop is suitable for anyone interested, whether they have brewing experience or not. However, you must be 21 or older to participate.  Registration is required. Admission is $60. This covers all your materials and a guided herb walk on Cedar Lane Farm to gather fresh materials to make your own herbal beer that afternoon. Tara will host extensive herbal beer tasting and sampling. You will take home a bottle of your own beer. Class size will be limited to 20 people for the best possible learning experience. Please note that when registering here on Event Brite, there is a nominal ticket processing fee included. Tickets are also available at Mother Earth Foods or Tara Welty's Acupuncture practice for a flat rate of $60.00. Agenda 10-11 AM - Introduction, history, general principles 11 AM-Noon - Plant walk and gathering fresh materials Noon-12:30 PM - Preparing the infusion 12:30 - 1:15 PM - Lunch - PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN 1:15 - 2:30 PM - Safety, bottling, and storage of herbal ales 2:30 - 4:00 PM - Herbal beer tasting, discussion, and Q&A About Your Presenter Tara Welty is a board-certified and state licensed acupuncturist practicing in Parkersburg, WV, and Athens, OH. As a child growing up in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, Tara became interested in alternative medicine at an early age, first learning about herbs, homeopathy, and nutrition from her mother. Her latest passion, herbal beer brewing, integrates a preservation technique practiced the world over with some great culinary fun. DIRECTIONS TO CEDAR LANE FARM From Route 50 East or West, turn onto Dutch Ridge Road, drive about 1 mile and look for the signs. From Route 47 (Staunton Turnpike) East or West, turn onto Dutch Ridge Road, drive about 2 miles and look for the signs. The Cedar Lane Farm Kitchen is in the warehouse at the bottom of the hill.
