      Uhuru Youth Refugee Benefit Concert

      A fundraising concert to support the Family Promise Refugee Housing Stability Program.

      The Uhuru Youth Choir of Salem, Oregon was founded in March 2019. It is made up mostly of youth, ages 7-24, who grew up in refugee camps and cities in Burundi, Tanzania, Kenya, Mozambique, and Egypt. They have been living in Salem anywhere from 6 months to 12 years. The choir chose their name "uhuru" because it means "freedom" in Swahili.

      The choir sings worshipful songs of joy and freedom in Swahili, Arabic, French, Zulu and Spanish.

      Suggested donation is $10. An anonymous Temple Beth Sholom donor who will match all proceeds for this fundraising event.
