7th Annual Get Fit Selma! Health & Fitness Festival

The 7th Annual Get Fit Selma! Health & Fitness Festival (GFS!) will be held from 6:30 am to 1:00 pm, Saturday, September 28, 2019 at Wallace Community College Selma. GFS! includes a 5K Run, 1-Mile Walk/Run, Health Screenings, Vendor Fair, Exercise EXPO and BOSS Youth League Basketball.

This year GFS! is stretching itself to feature additional experiences:
Health Screenings begin at 9:00 am; to date, the Health Screenings include blood pressure, blood sugars and a vision exam. The Health Education & Vendor Fair opens at 9:15am, during which we will be treated to a presentation and cooking demonstration by Ms. Ellen McKnight, of The Maxine Firm. We will also host the former Alabama players of the NFL Players Association during the Fair and as part of Let’s Move Kid’s Challenge. We will also welcome back Michelle and Sean Clark with Double Dutch Aerobics.

Let’s Move! Kid’s Challenge runs from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm and is the activity for which we are hoping to rent the Human Hamster Balls. Scheduled challenging physical activities including hoola hoop and jump rope contests, tug of war and a water balloon competition. The Fire Department will be represented with its fire equipment ready for inspection and hopefully its inflated bouncer house.

BOSS Youth League Basketball Tournament is looking for four to eight 7-player teams to challenge BOSS’s Best. The tournament will be organized in 10-minute halves; single elimination; 5-on-5 format with two substitutes. There will be free throws.

Cost: Free - The entire Health & Fitness Festival is free-of-charge with the exception of our Healthy Food Lunch. We have free tabling for local community services and health educators. Vendor who want to sell products will be asked for a $50 tabling fee. The BOSS Youth League Basketball Tournament asks for donations at the door to support its program activities.
