      U.S. Democracy, Congressional Oversight, and Securing the 2020 Election:  A Forum with Ro Khanna and Larry Diamond NOTE: This is the new date and location, September 4 in the Ballroom within the same Sunnyvale Community Center.  Please bring your ticket. Congressman Ro Khanna and Professor Larry Diamond will discuss the decline of democracy around the world, threats to democratic institutions in our own country, the ongoing Congressional oversight of the presidency of Donald Trump amidst growing calls to open an impeachment inquiry, and ways to prevent foreign election interference in the 2020 election. Congressman Ro Khanna represents district CA-17 in Silicon Valley and is a member of the House Oversight and Reform committee. Rep. Khanna is committed to representing the people and ideas rooted in Silicon Valley to the nation and throughout the world. District 17 encompasses the cities of Sunnyvale, Cupertino, Santa Clara, Milpitas, Newark, the majority of Fremont, and the northern part of San Jose. The district includes the campus of Santa Clara University and the corporate headquarters of Apple Inc, Intel Corp., Yahoo, and eBay. Larry Diamond is a professor of political science and sociology at Stanford University; Senior Fellow at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies; Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution; Former Director of the Center on Democracy, Development, and the Rule of Law; and author of the new book Ill Winds: Saving Democracy from Russian Rage, Chinese Ambition, and American Complacency. Prof. Diamond's research focuses on democratic trends and conditions around the world and on policies and reforms to defend and advance democracy. He now writing a textbook and preparing a massive open online course (MOOC) on democratic development. Our moderator Mike McNerney leads the cyber threat intelligence business at Arbor Networks and runs their election protection initiative. He’s an affiliate at the Stanford Center for International Security and Cooperation and the chair of Technology for Global Security. Mike is a former military officer and has served as a cybersecurity policy advisor at the Pentagon, as well as a diplomat in the U.S. State Department. Event organizers:
