The Big Bang - Percussion Frenzy

Talkin' the Drum and Island Vibe present: The Big Bang - Percussion Frenzy!! A night dedicated to the incredible world of African drumming, right in the heart of West End. Hosted by Elliott Orr, this is the highest calibre drumming event in Queensland, if not Australia. Presale tickets are available via Eventbrite, link below. Featured on July 5th is Master Drummer Mohamed Bangoura - aka Bangoura Ke or simply BK, a totally phenomenal djembe player, musician and dancer. BK hailing from Guinea, West Africa, has devoted his life to performing and teaching djembe all over the world. BK is as good as it gets in the world of djembe playing - internationally. You won't believe the power and sounds that his hands can pull out of a djembe. You may think you know what a 'bongo' sounds like.....well.....prepare to have your mind blown! BK will also perform with the kora, a 21-stringed harp from West Africa. Joined by Elliott Orr on the calabash and other special guests this will be a set of sweetness and delicacy, creating a fantastic dynamic to the massive sound of the djembe throughout the night. Spankinhide, as the house band for these events, will perform a wild set of intricate rhythms, loaded with dance-inspiring power. Spankinhide now includes master drummer Adama Fakoly who hails from the Ivory Coast. Spank will do their own set as well as collaborating with BK to totally set the room on fire with everyone bouncing. Excited to include Ben Walsh of the The Bird who is performing with a sax player. They are called Na Moja and it will be totally danceable. Ben Walsh is a total killer drum kit player who can take any audience on an epic journey - prepare yourselves for a sonic treat. The Big Bang is introducing DJ Monsieur Diop to the Brizzie scene. Of French decent and based in Byron Bay Monsieur Diop will finish the night with a beautiful set of world beats. Joined by Elliott Orr on bougarabou and djembe the dance floor won't stop heaving! Welcoming the new project involving Rudi Morgan Quinzalez called Solua. Fronted by the Guadelopan soulstress Melissa Cambon, Solua mix up the steamy tropical vibes of Brazil and the Caribbean. Bringing their shared love and passion for drumming, dancing and each other Beatriz and Elliott will perform a mask-removing ceremony plus a choreographed dance of Yankadi Macrou. This is also the end of term gig/party for Elliott Orr's student drumming group Zormiwasa. Performing Sankaran, a rhythm Elliott learned in Guinea earlier this year with Bk, 30-40 djembe students will perform for family and friends. This will be epic, you won't believe how amazing so many drummers can sound together. Kicking off the night will be the Wesley Mission Beat Stars. This is a group of wonderful human beings that have been studying with Elliott for over a year. Rising above the various disabilities with which these individuals live, their show will fill you with heart felt goodness and courage in the human spirit. FRIDAY JULY 5th.
