Indiana Master Naturalist - Natural Resources Trilogy Event

How would you like to learn about our Hoosier natural resources? The Indiana Master Naturalist program provides hands-on learning and a way for you to share that knowledge, along with your life experiences, through volunteer service. Join us for an Indiana Master Naturalist program with an all new format!  We cover all of the required topics (6 hrs Zoology, 6 hrs Botany, 3 hrs Geology/Soils, 3 hrs People & Natural Resources, 3 hrs Water and 3 hrs Miscellaneous) in 3-1/2 days during August and September. To complete the program and receive certification, you must attend all sessions in their entirety. There will be a short orientation meeting on Tuesday, August 13th @ 7:00 pm at the Lilly Nature Center. At that time, you will receive detailed program information and starting locations for each of the sessions: Fri, Aug 23rd: On the River - The Mighty Wabash: Oars & Shores (Classroom) - 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm Sat, Aug 24th: On the River - The Mighty Wabash: Oars & Shores (River Rafting) - 8:00 am to 1:00 pm Sat, Sep 7th: At the Prairie - Prophetstown State Park: Grassland Restoration - 8:00 am to 4:00 pm Sat, Sep 21st: In the Forest - Martell Forest: Living Laboratory - 8:00 am to 4:00 pm Due to remote locations and days packed full of hands-on learning and interdisciplinary activities, lunch will be "brown bag", although some snacks will be provided. Physical Requirements: This program is somewhat physically demanding, especially the Saturday "On the River" session.  Participants will be paddling for 2-3 hours, getting in and out of rafts on uneven terrain, helping to carry rafts in and out of the river, and helping to load rafts onto the trailer at the end of the trip. While you need not be an athlete, you should be aware of the physical requirements of participation. Also, please be aware that during the 3 hours of rafting and on the water stops, there will be no toilet facilities available. Facilities are available prior to raft departure from Mascouten Park and upon arrival at Fort Ouiatenon.
