Invasive Shrub Removal – Indian Springs

Location: Environmental Discovery Center, Indian Springs Metropark, 5175 Indian Trail, White Lake, MI 48386 Date: Thursday September 5th, 10am – 1pm Join us in removing invasive shrubs from Indian Springs Metropark. We will meet in the parking lot of the EDC (look for the Metroparks vehicle and blue flag). Volunteers receive free day entry to the park, just let the toll booth attendant know you are at the park for a volunteer workday. Everyone is welcome! All necessary tools and equipment will be provided, as well as a water cooler and snacks. We will provide gloves, but feel free to bring your favorite pair! Please come dressed for a day outside and off trail in areas that may have poison ivy (closed-toe shoes, long pants, hat, sunscreen). We will be cutting down invasive shrubs with loppers, handsaws, and reciprocating saws then treating the cut stumps with herbicide. Invasive shrubs, brought to the United States for landscaping and wildlife habitat, have now taken over many prairies, wetlands, and forest understories. They have become a detriment to our ecosystem by crowding out native plants. Native biodiversity is extremely important to support wildlife, native bees, and other insects. Volunteers are a critical part of positively impacting natural areas we wouldn’t be able to otherwise! Your help allows the Metroparks to protect unique ecosystems that will be enjoyed for generations to come. Registration is required. Please register at least 24 hours before the workday. To register, please visit or contact the Natural Resources Volunteer Coordinator, at, or 810-494-6053. Please register so you may be made aware of cancellations. Volunteer opportunities may also be cancelled for severe weather events. These weather events can include extreme heat or heavy rain. Opportunities cancelled due to weather may be rescheduled. Those registered will be notified by email at least 24 hours in advance. A liability waiver is required; if under 18, a parent/legal guardian needs to sign as well.
