      Bygone Days at McGirt Farm

McGirt Farm McGirt Farm is reminiscent of bygone days of the small family farm when cows were the centerpiece of the farm economy. Randy and Mary Lynn McGirt will discuss all the ways that the milk cow is the most important part of the farm.  On this tour you will have opportunity to meet the milk cows and see how they each know their names.  You will see the two heifer calves, Sally and Pearl, and the steers.  The laying hens will be glad to see you too.  They may even put on quite a show scratching for worms and bugs if it isn't too hot out.  There will be a tour of the orchard and vegetable garden where you can see practices of dig and no dig gardening techniques and learn how we use only nutrients produced on the farm in the garden. One of those ways just may surprise you! Be sure to bring: Sneakers (no flip-flops or sandals) Hat  Sunscreen On your way to Whiteville, check out award-winning restaurant, The Chef & The Frog. A local favorite that combines Asian, European and Southern flavors into a fusion twist! Chef Sokun uses only fresh ingredients sourced directly from the surrounding local farms to create her menu.  *Be sure to stop at a public restroom before your visit to McGirt Farm. This is a working farm and does not have any facilities on site.
