      Beginner Silver Ring Bands Workshop

In this workshop students will make their own silver rings from start to finish. This class will cover basic metalsmithing skills, such as cutting, shaping, and joining metal. You will customize your ring bands with surface design techniques such as roller-printing, stamping, and hammering.  $79 workshop fee does not include materials. The $20 materials kit can be purchased at the beginning of the workshop. (For safety, be sure to wear closed toe shoes and have long hair pulled back with clips or in a ponytail.) We will have an hour break for lunch between Noon-1pm. Bring your own lunch or check out one of the local restaurants in the area. Open to adults only. Please contact us directly if you are interested in seeing metalsmithing options for teens. About the instructor: Sarah Storey Walker received her M.F.A from East Carolina University and went to work at the Mattress Factory Museum of Installation Art helping to facilitate artworks with contemporary artists such as Yayoi Kusama and Damien Hirst. She also has experience in glass production and has worked on manufacturing raw material for artists like Dale Chihuly and artist-designed pieces for artists such as Jeff Koons. Sarah works in a wide range of materials but favors ideas and teaching over all. She received a grant from Touchstone Center for the Arts to study metalsmithing, her writing has been published by the Arts Education periodical and she has given lectures at the De Young Museum. She mostly chooses to work collaboratively or behind-the-scenes but her work has been shown at 111 Minna Gallery and Black Rock City.  Click here to view our cancellation policy.
