Beginning Metalsmithing Saturday 6-week Artist Series

Starts September 21st (Saturdays, from 5-8 pm for 6 weeks) Learn metalsmithing in a fun, relaxed atmosphere. Begin by learning how to handle the necessary tools and equipment. You will then set out on several projects, making rings, bracelets and earrings, and perfecting skills in techniques like forging, texturizing and soldering. PLEASE NOTE: This follows the same curriculum as the Tuesday night Beginner Metalsmithing series. If the Tuesday night series is sold out, you are invited to register for this series. Non-members: $195 for 6 weeks, or $40 per class. Members: $156. Call (207) 847-4060 for drop-in availability.   Fee does not include materials. Supply kit available from instructor for $10 when series begins. Additional supplies available to purchase separately as needed for class projects. Open to adults only. Please contact us directly if you are interested in seeing metalsmithing options for teens. About the instructor: Sarah Storey Walker received her M.F.A from East Carolina University and went to work at the Mattress Factory Museum of Installation Art helping to facilitate artworks with contemporary artists such as Yayoi Kusama and Damien Hirst. She also has experience in glass production and has worked on manufacturing raw material for artists like Dale Chihuly and artist-designed pieces for artists such as Jeff Koons. Sarah works in a wide range of materials but favors ideas and teaching over all. She received a grant from Touchstone Center for the Arts to study metalsmithing, her writing has been published by the Arts Education periodical and she has given lectures at the De Young Museum. She mostly chooses to work collaboratively or behind-the-scenes but her work has been shown at 111 Minna Gallery and Black Rock City.    Click here to view our cancellation policy.
